Review: A durable well made knife set that are a good value - About 30 years ago I had purchased a a steel J.A. Henckels knife set before micro-serrated edges that never requires sharpening were created. I had to sharpen those knives and they served my purposes. (I was quite happy with them). Sadly they were lost during a move. Flash forward to 2017 and my new set of J.A. Henckels International SilverCap 14 piece knife block set. While these certainly are not the top of J.A. Henckels line of products I do have to they are well made. I love the fact Henckels has created an ever sharp blade that is dishwasher safe. (In the past my previous set could never be put in a dishwasher and was always hand washed and dried.) I am getting used to the serrated edge to one side of the blade, having to angle inward slightly when cutting through unpeeled onions, but once I figured out that trick I had no problem. As I practice using these new knives I am delighted to find I can slice carrots paper thin if I want to. (something that my old knife set never achieved) I do wish this set had a boning knife and perhaps one more utility knife (perhaps in lieu of so many steak knives) but overall this set is a great value and the knives are going to be a workhorse in my kitchen. I am a serious cook who requires good cutlery, good cookware, and good small kitchen appliances. These knife will easily stand up to the task.

**Q: Are the steak knives serrated or do they have a nice smooth edge?**
A: All the knives are serrated. These knives have been my worst purchase ever. I would return them in a heartbeat if I could. I would highly advise against these knives.

**Q: Is the handle rubber or plastic?**
A: Very hard plastic wood looking.

**Q: which is the better knife.....the ever edge plus or the international silvercap....i keep reading but confused. also, made in spain or china?**
A: The quality of the build is not even at bar with minimum safety needs for either. The steel in the handle doesn't extend all way, and the handle plastic will break. 
Amazon basics set is better choice

**Q: Specifically what knives (and what size) come in this set?**
A: 6 steak, cutting knives (very sharp), bread knife, carving knife, large all purpose knife, culinary knife for veggies and quick chopping, pair of scissors.  Very nice set, fully satisfied.

This is a very nice looking and well made set of knives. All of the knives have serrated edges which is not what I am used to. They work well, however, the serrated edge takes some getting used to.
