For example, 8 female and 4 male on the front.** A: Yes, each port is a small independent unit consisting of the male jack, short wires, and a female jack. There is not enough wire between the male and female jacks to move to distinctly different ports (providing some kind of crossover, or shift), but each pre-wired port unit will easily swap to the exact opposite side with just a small screwdriver. **Q: Returns accepted?** A: don't know **Q: How deep is this unit? I find the 1" cube size in the description hard to beleive.** A: I didn't measure exactly but I am pretty confident it's less than 5 inches deep not accounting for the space needed to allow for xlr cables to be connected to the inside/rear. I mounted this in an skb case on the rear to allow easy patching of audio xlr input and outputs from processing gear for easy access and save wear to audio components mounted in the front of the skb case. **Q: Does this pass through phantom power?** A: Yes. No digging around the back of a rack to route signals. The only issue I have found is that some of the units seem to be fabricated such that they take up just slightly more than one rack space. For me this hasn’t been a huge issue because I bought racks with plenty of extra space, but just be aware. Quality of XLR jacks is excellent, no degradation in signal passing through these jacks. Using decent quality cables I could detect no degredation in audio quality, and, of couse, the ease of making connections is great. Not a lot to say here.
