Its attached. And wont move or come off. Didnt quite understand the directions but its on there. Id have an instructor double check is before sparring **Q: this shield is compatible with which helmet?** A: This shield is compatiable with various head gear. We don't even have the Macho Dyna Rival rubber head gear but we were able to make it fit as long as the holes are there for the two top straps. The bottom strap attaches across the chin to the other side. You can buy one and try it before you invest a lot of money. We brought 20 of the clear face shields as we had the head gear already. It took a little playing around with the straps but in the end the Clear Face Shield fits and works on both kids and adults. I would recommend that you buy one clear face shield and try it with differnt head gear. Funny thing is that the all the velcro straps are flat and rectangular but the various head gear has all round holes. It's a little tricky to figure how it attaches with the velcro straps at first but there is documentation included that explains how to go about it. It's quite easy after you see the diagram. The openings are just right to protect from strikes and large enough so the mask won't fog up. I've read this won't fit the other Macho brand headgear due to strap/hole alignment but it is a perfect match for the Macho Dyna Rival. It also fits multiple sizes of the Macho Dyna Rival head gear as your kid grows. No complaints here. My yellow belt five year old has been using it for kumite in Shito-Ryu Karate for about three months now. I do wish it was sold as a set though; head gear and face shield together. But it probably isn't because it fits multiple size head gear. The only drawback might be once the mask is attached to the headgear the opening is a bit smaller. You have to pull the ear pads outward to get your head in. Once your head's in though it's a very good fit. This is negligible once your kid learns to spread the ears wide to get in. If you're looking for something different with a higher price point, head gear like the Century has the opening in the rear with an attached foam chin piece. On this head gear the chin foam piece is on the inside of the mask.
