My 7.5 year old son had been asked by his dentist and orthodontist to try to stop but was struggling, particularly at bed time and when watching TV. This works just as it is intended--to remind him that he is about to suck his thumb, since otherwise he would so without really even noticing that he was. The seam on the outside keeps it from irritating his skin and he is perfectly happy to keep it on at home. I hand wash it regularly when he is gone to school.
