I bought 2 x 5000w units when I came from the USA to Europe. Why? Because I thought, oh lemme buy that 40" flat screen Samsung at Walmart on sale for $350 because I thought the equivalent would cost a lot more in Europe. Nope, yes maybe a little more than Walmart, but after you factor in the transformer and the sheer ugliness of it (and you cant/shouldn't hide it inside of something else because it makes heat and needs air) where are you? First of all, appliances don't last forever and they have to be replaced eventually.
