If you compare it to the G3, I think it's worth the extra. You won't have to play with any of the settings because it will do it for you. So basically, you turn it on, wait few seconds then boom you are ready to record. The only thing that I think could be be better is the lav microphone. If you change it for a better quality microphone you will see the difference but in the end it still a good quality product. The pouch included in the package could possibly be a little better than this. It looks like they took the pouch that was designed for the handheld microphone which is not the best but in the end, this is a minor issue. This product is covered by a warranty as long as you buy it from a Canadian retailer. I bought mine from Amazon in Canada directly to ensure I have a valid warranty but I could've bought it from Camera Canada (Ontario) but it was just more expensive than Amazon.
