With 9" cake, you'll have 1" space left for base/border decorations. I suspect yes, will fit 3 layers if you trim the dome off the cakes and keep the top decorations low... based on I was able to fit 3, 9" stacked cake pans in with some room to spare. See my photos. **Q: What is the height of the inside of the dome?** A: The high of the dome according to my measurement is 4.5 inch but keep in mind that the dome is narrow at the top about 2 inches less than the bottom of the dome. So actually the high is practically 3.5 inches to be in the safe side to place a cake. So the high of cake should be about 3.5 inches or less. **Q: Hi , What is the outside diameter of the cover ? thanks** A: The diameter of the cover is 10 1/4 inches. I measured it from inside the glass on one side to inside the glass on the other. Meaning the cake can be 10" that goes onto the stand. If you mean the circumference (all the way around the cover and not just one side to the other, I don't know. **Q: So, I used to have one of these & the dome could be flipped & rested in the upside down base piece to make a punch bowl.
