This obviously excludes the handle and the plastic blade protectors. - the 4 diamond sharpening plates that are included with the kit are enough to get a pretty darn sharp edge. - assembly is self-explanatory enough, with the application of a little common sense it shouldn't be a struggle for most people to get it put together in fairly short order. - the instructions are pretty detailed where the actual sharpening of the blade is concerned. - it comes with a nice bag to keep everything together. The bad: - there is no angle guide so you'll either have to use a phone app to find your angle (as the advert suggests you do) or buy a protractor. I printed 3d a selection of angles taken from angle guides for whetstone sharpening, they work a treat and allow me to set my angle in less than 30 seconds. In fairness the product advert highlights this problem so I went into this fully aware of the issue. Given that, this isn't really something you can hold against the product. - the instructions are pretty sparse in terms of how you put the actual product together, that said, as previously stated, it's fairly self-explanatory, but I can see people being a little confused at first glance, so a couple of short paragraphs and some illustrations in the manual would really make the instructions complete. - the cloth is shedding a little. - the double sided tape that you use to afix the plastic blade protectors to the clamps is pretty poor, it comes unstuck easily. I solved this with some epoxy glue, I would recommend anyone who buys this kit throw away the double sided tape and just go straight to the epoxy. Overall: It's a cheap fixed angle sharpener, but I think this product is more than good enough for most people who just want to sharpen their dull kitchen knives. It will do the job, it doesn't have a learning curve like traditional whetstones do, and it isn't particularly expensive. I would've given this product five stars if the instructions were a little more thorough, the platic blade protectors where stuck on at the factory with a decent adhesive, and the cloth wasn't shedding. A little water on the stones makes it a bit messier but a better edge. Takes a little time to get the technique, but once you have it it's very easy.
