We do consider them cruel for mice, snakes, etc but safeguard pretty well against anything bigger getting into those areas. These have been amazing. They've captured so many insects that are otherwise hard to manage. The one downfall is that they stick to the floor pretty severely if turned over. We had a wind gust knock one over and hubby had to sit for a good half hour with a scraper and some kind of harsh chemical, trying to get the glue off the concrete. Ever since then, we fold them instead of using them flat. Helps keep larger critters away too, such as if we leave the garage open and get a curious squirrel or something. I was having issues while mudding the garage where the roly poly bugs would hang out on the wet drywall mud, trying to get into the house. This kept the mud clean/safe.
