Inexpensive and works well
This Chapin hose end sprayer works well for applying liquid fertilizers to shrubs, perennials and bedding plants. The directions are easy to understand and they give dilution and mixing examples, which is very handy. The only odd thing about the directions is that it says to fill up the tank with fertilizer/water mixture and THEN attach the hose. This only works if you have a very flexible hose, otherwise you have to twirl the bottle around to thread it to the hose end, and liquid seeps out of a little hole in the lid. Much better to attach the lid to the hose first.

Great for the price
It does the job for the price, good pressure and good distribution of the fertilizer but I wish it would have more angle control.

Saved me $600
We have a guy who comes out to check on our HVAC twice a year - May for AC, September for furnace. For the last two years he has told me I needed to clean my evaporator coil fins. I knew enough not to use a pressure washer but was still doing it wrong. This year he said it was bad enough I needed coil cleaner. He said I could buy foam in a can but added "Ours comes in a gallon jug that we put into a sprayer." He was trying to point me to the right stuff while not endangering his job. His company would have charged me $600 to clean my unit. I searched for the can foam and this came up too along with the Simple Green Foaming Coil Cleaner. Bingo! Application is super easy. Put the cleaner in the sprayer bottle, attach to your hose. The first pass was both amazing and disgusting. Globs of dirt coming off my coil fins. I was shocked at how much better this was than my previous attempts with just "thumb on the hose". I ended up doing the worst side 3 times and the second worst twice. I used 1/4 of the gallon to do that. You will notice a change in how much foam is produced that indicates when you have run out of cleaner and are just spraying water. Attach the sprayer to the hose first then unscrew the bottle to fill it. The hose connector does not rotate so you want to attach it empty because you are going to be rotating the entire unit. The coil cleaner is very slippery so be careful about spilling on the sides. The sprayer tip is designed to let you get between the slats. Part of what made my previous attempts fail was that the protective slats for the unit protected too well. This solves that. You get under the slats and just blast crud off your coil fins. If there was a smell, I dont remember it so it must not have been strong. The value is through the roof. $30 for the foam and $7 for the sprayer. I should get 4 cleanings out of that. Call it $6 a cleaning vs $600.

Disappointing Performance & Design Flaws
I had high hopes for the Chapin G390 Hose End Sprayer, but unfortunately, it fell short in several key areas. While the idea of a simple, efficient sprayer for lawns, fertilizers, and insecticides is great, the actual performance was frustrating and unreliable. Key Issues & Drawbacks ❌ Inconsistent Spray & Poor Suction – One of the biggest problems is the sprayer’s inability to maintain a consistent spray pattern. At times, it barely pulls any solution from the tank, leading to uneven application and wasted product. ❌ Flimsy Finger Control – The finger control lever feels cheaply made and doesn’t provide smooth operation. It’s either fully open or shut, making it difficult to control the flow properly. ❌ Backflow Prevention? Not Really. – The backflow prevention feature is supposed to stop contamination, but I noticed some leaking and dripping, which defeats the purpose. ❌ Difficult to Get the Right Mixture – The adjustable settings are not very reliable, and it’s hard to tell if the correct concentration is being applied. The dilution ratio seems off, meaning I either overuse or underuse my solutions. ❌ Build Quality Feels Cheap – The plastic tank is thin and doesn’t feel durable. After only a few uses, I noticed minor cracks developing, raising concerns about its longevity. What Works? ✔️ The translucent tank is a nice touch, allowing you to see how much solution is left. ✔️ When it works, it covers a decent area—but only if you can get the spray to function properly. Final Verdict ⭐ 2/5 – Frustrating & Unreliable The Chapin G390 had potential, but it suffers from too many functional issues to be a worthwhile purchase. Between the inconsistent spray, unreliable suction, and flimsy controls, it’s hard to recommend. If you need a hose-end sprayer for lawn care, you’re better off investing in a more reliable model. Would not purchase again.

Solid, cheap, confusing to use
Picked this up for applying herbicide to a blackberry infestation too large for a pump sprayer. It did the job, but I'd recommend a dial-type sprayer for a similar application. Build quality is solid. It's a simple product, but seems to be tough molded plastic and not heat-welded parts, so tough enough to knock around. It's slightly confusing to use in terms of mixing. Rather than choosing an oz/gal ratio like on a dial sprayer, you need to calculate out how many gallons total solution you need to apply based on square footage, fill with the appropriate amount of concentrate, then top it off to the line marking total gallons. Not great for spot applications, and try remembering that process when you only use it a couple times a year. Other criticisms: very coarse flow control with the thumb lever—I ran through my whole tank in a few minutes— and an air inlet hole on the top that will quickly leak out the contents if not set totally upright. Well built product, like most of Chapin's various sprayers and attachments, but not particularly versatile. I'd recommend the Chameleon sprayer, especially if you have a number of different types of concentrates as it screws directly onto a number of different bottle sizes.

Easy to use & Effective!
The sprayer is absolutely amazing and so easy to use! I used it for my natural soil amender and it just took minutes to get all of my front yard! No leaking, it was light weight and super easy to put on!

Excellent affordable fertilizer sprayer with on/off valve
Basic garden hose fertilizer sprayer. Side of plastic bottle indicates how many gallons of mix fertilizer you'll be using once empty. Plan on spraying 10 gallon on plants, 2 tablespoons per gallon, add 20 tbls and fill bottle to 10 gallon mark, easy as that. Has one off valve on top allows you to water without fertilizing. This Chapin G390 Hose End Sprayer For Water Soluble Materials is basic application for $7 it's honestly all you need, why spend 3-4 time more?

A basic sprayer that works
Don’t believe that because this cheap that it doesn’t work. You might not be able to dial the flow rate, but it works well for the price

Great buy for lawn care
Bought this sprayer to apply nematodes to my lawn. Worked great, but both times, it seemed like after the 5 gallon mark on the bottle, it stopped going down. I'm pretty sure it still sprayed most of the product out on my lawn. Will be using it to apply fertilizer too.
