The packages have a sticker put on them saying the specific size range of the shells inside. But not all the packages are the same!For one package of the large shells ( Shells for Hermit Crabs - Large - 2 pk ), the size was from 1" to 1 1/4". On the other, it was from 1" to 1 1/2". It turns out the large size are HUGE! Way too big for my crabs!For the mediums(the size this review is for), the sizes were 3/4" to 1" and 1/2" to 3/4" (which gave me a very good range of sizes for my crabs to choose from!) It turns out that these were the size I needed.I would certainly recommend these shells! The mediums were the perfect size for my hermit crabs, which are pretty average size. My son has two hermit crabs and the shells all are too small. One of them may work for our smallest crab and that is cutting it close. Shells arrived in great shape. Were not cracked. Not a mix of sizes. Disappointed in sizing, not quality. Arrived as pictured. May order again in future, but definitely would watch sizing on the shells. Did not notice smell or residue. Am curious about over all shininess of shells since it is suggested to use more natural shells and avoid painted shells (unsure over all, bought crabs with painted shells and appear healthy).
