The fermenter is plastic, but it is durable. I've brewed both of my hop extracts, carefully following the included directions. They came out great. The bottles are plastic as well and worked just fine. They did not seem to leak any CO2. I measured out my own priming sugar and both batches were carbonated. The spigot works and saves you from needing a bottling wand or siphon. It didn't leak at all for me, but be gentle with it, don't over tighten it. I think the bottom line is this is a great way to try home brewing before spending a bunch of money on it. Sure, there are fancier bottles and bigger, more expensive fermenter made of steel, and more accessories you could buy. But it's great to have a feel for what you really need before you waste money on things that are not as crucial. I will be picking up bigger plastic fermenting buckets, but Mr Beer will stay in service for the foreseeable future. Before I go, two crucial tips: follow the directions slowly and carefully, and do not bother your yeast, they are busy.
