What cuts my material? A die cutting machine will always be necessary in order to die cut, though it's not the machine itself that physically cuts your material. Your chosen die (for example a Sizzix Bigz, Thinlits or Framelits die), is responsible for cutting the design . the machine just applies the pressure. So if you're ever unsure if you can die cut a certain material, check the compatibility of your die rather than your machine! How do I use a Thinlits die? It’s easy! Grab your Big Shot Machine and Cutting Pads to get started. Firstly, take one cutting pad and place your chosen material on top. Then, place your Thinlits die with cutting lines down on top of the material. Complete your sandwich with your second cutting pad placed on the top of the Thinlits die and chosen material and it’s ready to go! With one roll through your die cutting machine, your design will be revealed. Note: An Adapter Platform will be required when using Thinlits dies with any of our Sizzix Big Shot machines. All these small parts, shutters, shingles, door hinges and knobs were difficult to keep up with, but the final results were well worth the effort. Do note: I consider myself a newbie with die-cutting and someone with more experience would have breezed right through the process. The fact I was using glue complicated matters more, no reflection on the die. The dies cut easily with 65 lb card stock and only one pass through my Sizzix Big Shot. The paper showed the alignment marks for adding the additional color, things such as the shutters, shingles, hinges, etc. I chose black with grey as my first try, but may try different Halloween colors when I do some more. (I may try adhesive paper or a spray fixative also!) All in all, I'm pretty happy with the final result and look forward to creating more. Review: Maybe you don't need to assemble ALL of the pieces... - I really enjoyed using this die. It is high quality and easy to use. The only thing I had an issue with was the number of small accent pieces. I reduced the number of pieces I used in the accents to the shutters, the shingles, the door accents and the porch framing. This reduced number made working on 12 cards less time consuming, yet lent enough details to really make the house interesting. I also printed images of Frankenstein's monster and a witch onto card stock to showcase behind the windows as the window trims are cut out.
