Review: Works but not recommended for low airflow/passive systems - I needed to create an exhaust system for my 3D printer so I purchased the AC Infinity cloud line in-line fan along with this backdraft damper since my exhaust leads directly outdoors. One thing I noticed is that the springs on this damper are pretty stiff so it requires a decent amount of airflow to push the damper flaps open. Using the cloud line S4's speed controller as a reference, the flaps didn't open until I got to level 4. The reason this may be an issue is because in temperature controlled environments (like printing certain types of material) you don't want your in-line fan to be too strong otherwise it will cool your chamber too quickly. Aside from that, the damper is constructed well and will likely last a long time. One other thing to note, I bought the 4" damper and with 4" ducting it is a very tight fit to get the ducting around so it does create a decent enough seal. Overall works well but if you only require a low airflow system like me I would recommend testing this out first before fully installing.
Review: Great quality and did the job - AC Infinity stuff is always great, this is no exception. I’ve got two of these hooked up in the attic so I can run two exhaust fans to one outlook. They lit the air flow freely, but only in the direction I want. Allows me to pass code! Nice product, easy install and since it’s in the attic no perceived noise inside (I don’t know if it’s load next to it). Good value!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can this 6" damper connect directly to the ac infinity cloudline t6 fan or it need to connect to duct first then fan?**
A: No. This has a female sized connection. The fan's diameter is for attachment of ducting. It is the SAME SIZE as the damper. A short section of duct will be needed to connect the two. Could use a 3 inch piece of 6 inch rigid duct and tape it.

**Q: How air tight is this? Is it leaky at the center hinge or does it have gaskets there?**
A: The individual butterflies do not have any sort of gaskets or seals around their mating surfaces as they're not meant to be a way of "sealing off" a section of air handling equipment in an "air-tight" sense of the phrase...BUT, I will say that.. up against comparable dampers available at any home improvement store or HVAC supply house, these are of a NOTICEABLY higher quality!

This may sound like a sales pitch, but I assure you.. I'm nothing more than a customer who is VERY happy with their products.

AC Infinity component are like holding an Apple product! Even their packaging just feels "premium"!

The housing itself is very stout/heavy, made of thick (I believe) drawn metal, and not the typical thin, stamped/rolled and pinch-welded galvanized sheet metal that most others are made from.

The damper body is strong enough that I could NOT very easily get it to flex/distort in my hands. Obviously don't try this, as it's imperative that it stay "round" in order for the butterfly flaps to operate smoothly, but that's exactly WHY I tested that, because I wanted to see how easy it would distort when manhandled.. so I knew how delicate I needed to be with the thing while installing it, laying on my back, in my hot/cramped attic.. and I was surprised and shocked at how rigid the body of the unit actually was!

I've purchased/installed several AC Infinity 6" and 8" dampers now, and both of the HVAC pro's that I've had help me with my projects have all been shocked, and have commented about how amazed they are at just how nice ALL the AC Infinity stuff actually is once they finally take it out of the box and handle it.

It does have 2 soft rubber "o-ring" style gaskets around the outer diameter, meant to create a seal with the mating sections of pipe or hose that you slip onto either end.

The butterflies are very light to operate, they move very smoothly, and the retraction spring gives them a satisfying positive "clunk" when they return to their closed position after you turn your unit off and the air pressure drops inside the duct.

The butterfly sections are center hinged, and they seat up against a drawn "lip" inside of the body of the damper, so that any back flow pressure will actually push them up against this lip, and the more back pressure, the harder it will push against them making it difficult for any sort of air mass to move backwards up the system.. but as I already mentioned, it's not a submarine portal, so by no means does it create an air/water tight "hermetic" seal, but if you're only concerned about things like air drafts during cold weather (what it's really designed for) then you won't find a nicer damper!

Put it this way, it's not designed to be a "check-valve", or a shut-off valve, so I wouldn't try to use it to completely block-off a section of duct when not in use, or I wouldn't try to pressurize the back side of this thing with another fan, and expect it to prevent that fan's output from migrating backward/passed the damper.

A lot of people think you can have multiple fans share a single, centralized, exhaust duct as long as you install a backdraft damper behind each fan, and that the damper will prevent the other fans from backfeeding each other.. but that's just not the case.

It won't prevent things like gases, smoke, chemical vapor, or anything like that from entering a section of duct work when it's closed, but it will "seal" well enough to prevent cold back drafts, or the ingress of bird/insects, and it'll do a decent job at keeping your heat from escaping out your exhaust ducting when the fan is turned off and the damper is closed!

**Q: Will this work on the intake side of an ac infinity fan? i want to use this to pull air from a room and not allow the air to flow back into that room**
A: It will work on both the intake and exhaust side of the fan. I use it as part of a room exhaust system in my setup, it blocks the backdraft of air but if will let some heat or cold radiate through the metal flaps.

**Q: will this work with non flexible duct?**
A: Yes

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great quality and did the job

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quiet; large; spring-loaded; very well made; FINALLY WORKS
*by P***X on March 20, 2025*

If I could give it 6 stars, I would. This is my FOURTH go around at trying to solve a backdraft problem with my kitchen vent hood. This one finally did the trick. Amazing how many bad options there are out there for a backdraft damper, never would have guessed it. The problem is that most other backdraft preventer work by closing the flap using gravity alone, and it turns out that once installed, that's not always enough - kind of random. But you can tell right away when you step in the kitchen if the flap is open or not by whether youre freezing or comfortable: Walk to the hood; put your hand under and feel for the draft; get your answer - you'll always guess it right. With this one, it's always closed and the room is always comfortable. Thank you thank you thank you!! It's also very well made (sturdy, compared to all the others) and _not_ more expensive! It's also quieter than the others. Go figure. My only complaint: it only comes in 6" or 8" dia. WTF!! A vent hood has standard 7" ductwork. I got around this by buying and installing 2 flares, one on either sides. It mates nicely with the 7", but you need to have a bit of room in the cabinet above the hood: can't have a 90deg turn too close to the hood. You won't be able to cut through the metal work to reshape it easily, unless other thin-gage dampers, which I spent hours re-shaping. Works like a charm when installed right.
