It is wax like sticky stuff however, and depending on the type of surface you plan to stick it on, (like finished wood), it can damage it. I recommend using the clear Museum Gel better, (I've tried both) and have found the clear Museum Gel doesn't damage any surface afterwards. It is reusable--the item such as a glass wine bottle will hold, very well, and your bottle can be easily be picked up again, and readjusted without leaving a sticky mess behind. I hope this helps. **Q: Will this work to hold silver spoons vertically?** A: The label inside the jar only mentions that it holds on a table. It does not mention holding things vertically. It also says to check to be sure by "nudging at the base only to see if it is "gripping and not slipping".
