Great Reflector but Hard to Manage

*by P***U on Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2012*

The reflector is amazingly good, it takes up the whole space of the car's front window (regular sized sedan). And it doesn't fall over like some of the ones I've had in the past. I use the overhead mirrors and pull them down to secure the top but overall they can sit on the rear view mirror and stay pretty steady on the dashboard. On some really hot days when I can only park in spaces where the sun will eventually shine directly into my car, these reflectors help, a lot! Sitting in the car with the sun shining down, I can feel the shade just take its effect. The only downside is putting it away. Note it needs to fold up into circles and one of them has a rubber-band to secure them together so they don't unfold automatically. Getting them to fold can take awhile. Basically you hold two opposite ends and you fold it like a taco and right before meeting, you twist your wrists toward each other and the reflector should essentially automatically fold into 3 circles like a figure 8 but 3 circles that fold into each other. This took awhile for me to get down and even then sometimes when I do it correctly, it won't fold as intended. One time when I was in a rush, I just threw them in the backseat because I couldn't fold them after 3 attempts. That's only downside but I think practice makes perfect and I'll eventually get it down. The reflectors have the instruction on how to fold them. Overall I don't mind the small inconvenience when I have to close them as I'm starting to get them in one shot now but yeah just thought I'd note that.

Jumbo does not fit an Odyssey

*by M***K on Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2013*

I live in the Mojave Desert. Yes, 120 degrees in the shade in mid-July Mojave Desert. Without a shade like this, I could bake a cake in my Odyssey.I've tried several different types of sun shades. The big fan fold, these two piece taco-fold, and a hybrid of the two. I've had them in materials ranging from cardboard to fancy pants mylar-coated bubble wrap. The crinkly mylar type seem to work just as well as the silvery cloth variety for me. They last about the same amount of time.Until someone develops car windows that automatically turn 100% opaque and reflect heat, the taco-fold variety are the best. They fold down into a relatively small circle you can shove between the seats. You can break them up. Put one in the dash and give the other one to the kid in the way back bellyaching about being hot while you wait for dad to get out of the store, etc.My biggest issue is that my Odyssey has a ginormous front window. Super Jumbo fits perfectly, but they are hard to find. I ordered this by mistake and I'm putting it in a different vehicle.Tips to get the best use:Park facing into the sunCrack your windows at least an inch (moonroof window too)--no sunshade is going to keep your car cooler than the ambient air temperature. That ambient air needs to be able to get into the car. A sunshade MIGHT keep it from getting up to 140 in the interior, but not if the windows are all closed up.Practice folding it. I know it's a pain, but it really is something with the wrists. You can always chuck it into the back seat when you get annoyed.

I wanted another just like it. This is not it

*by L***K on Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2017*

I've had a nylon silver/black set for about 3 decades that has just given up the ghost (tearing apart). I wanted another just like it. This is not it. It's not a fabric-like material with a silver surface and a black surface, but rather a shiny mylar-type material. Even tho' it's not exactly what I wanted, seems flimsy and I can imagine it tearing rather easily, it fits very well/tightly into the windshield of my '88 Toyota Camry (large windshield) - blocking almost all of the light and definitely blocking the heat. The only problem is that it blocks heat so well - that when you take it off, the heat accumulated between the shield and the windshield feels like a blast oven. So give your car some time to air out - and make sure the bottom edge is all the way up to the glass or that dashboard will reflect the heat up to you. I'm happy to use this until it gets damaged (which may or may not happen quickly if I can keep it from getting caught on anything and tearing). Folding it up is not nearly as easy as if it was fabric - the material doesn't slide past itself easily and tends to bunch up. Still, liveable. ;) And for the price, if it lasts me a year, I'm ok with that.
