Review: Fixed my problem - details below - First off, the product quality seems good and it fixed my issue. 2005 suburban z71 with np8 transfer case and 4 button selector switch. My issue: service 4wd indicator and truck stuck in 4wd. Scan tool pulled c0321 code. Diagnosis: checked fuse (TREC) first. Then checked for corrosion/broken wires under fuse box in engine bay. Check for connections and corrosion behind knee plate under dash at TCCM. The TCCM is located on drivers side above emergency brake petal. Checked selector switch in dash with scan tool. Engaged/disengaged front axel with scan tool. Checked wiring/plug at encoder motor on t case. Verified 12v at the big orange wire in the connector. Then verified 5v at green wire. At this point I feel pretty confident it’s the encoder motor. Removal/Install: This is an easy job. Remove the skid plate below t case. Remove front driveshaft (it needs to go back the same way on the front diff so mark it before you take it apart). Unplug encoder motor. Remove the three bolts holding it on. Pull it out. IMPORTANT: The new encoder motor comes in the neutral position. The shaft on the t case has a key way on it. That key way needs to be facing straight down towards the ground which will put the t case in neutral. You need to put the vehicle transmission in neutral in order to turn the shaft on the t case!! Use wheel chocks please!! Once the transmission is in neutral, grab the shaft carefully with a pair of pliers and turn it so that the key way is facing down. Now you can install the encoder motor. Make sure you clean/reuse the gasket or, preferably, get a new gasket. There is a specific order to tighten/torque the bolts. Just google it. Clean/Reinstall everything else. Potential Problem: Here is what I wrote this review for bc I couldn’t find any information for the problem I encountered. When I turned my truck on, the lights on my selector switch flashed and then they all turned off and the t case wouldn’t respond. I scanned and pulled like 6 codes for the t case! Here is what I did. Check the plug to make sure it’s connected. Take both battery cables off the battery and touch them together for a few minutes. Reinstall and try again. I think the TCCM has to reset. Fired the truck back up, neutral light was illuminated on the switch and it shifted into all selections flawlessly. Hope this helps someone!
Review: Quality part works as intended - Fits like and works like OEM

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this part solve the problem of my truck being in 4 low when I crank my truck?**
A: Be aware key must be on engine off transmission in neutral to shift from 4 wheel drive low

**Q: my 03 chevy sylverado wont go into 2w drive it will go into 4h 4l and aouto4 could this b the problem
the transfer case shift motor?**
A: If it shifts between 4H and 4L then the motor is probably OK. Instead of thinking about a solution you should read the fault codes before you start throwing parts at it. You woild have to got to a dealership or a reputable independent shop that has a GM tech 2 or Snap On scan tool since the codes r stored in the tranfer case module. Parts stores will not b able to pull 4wd fault codes. Dont "think" about part numbers just look them up on doorman's website

**Q: How do I contact the seller for possible warranty issues?**
A: Have your receipt? Contact Amazon.

**Q: Will this part work with my 4 wheel drive truck**
A: It fits a Chevrolet 2000 and 1/2 to 2006

Fits like and works like OEM

### ⭐ Chinese Junk. Waste of time.
*by D***. on February 19, 2026*

Complete Chinese junk, don’t even waste your time. There is no quality control with these. I spent a little more money with Dorman hoping it might work. Thank God Amazon is easy to return but only within 30 days. I took a gamble and I knew it was a gamble. This is definitely not OEM General Motors original quality. I installed it and it does switch between 2 high 4high 4 low, but these have a motor lock that is supposed to hold the transfer case clutch pack to lock it in four-wheel-drive. The motor lock function does not hold. You think you are in four-wheel-drive but you’re not. I took the Dorman apart and the components are much weaker and thinner. I was hoping to mix and match parts with my original and the doormat parts are different. I ended up returning it and ordering One from a junkyard off eBay. I would rather have a 25-year-old used wrecking yard part, I am going to use two actuators to make one good one. FYI, I already had to make my own aluminum clutch locking disc for the motor lock because the factory original is plastic and it broken half. Unfortunately, these NP8 transfer cases aren’t the best and these actuators are a major problem. I wish there was a good remanufacturing company that rebuilds originals and supplied these on Amazon. But Amazon is just flooded with Chinese parts, so buyer beware and the worst part is AC Delco is discontinued. It looks like we are on our own with these, we need to bring back American quality and engineering, this is definitely a case of you get what you pay for. There is good China and there is bad China, this is definitely bad China disguised in a Dorman box. .
