Made in China so I was surprised at the sturdy quality of this stuff. All the rivets for hinges, etc are brass and excellent. Why don't we make this stuff in the USA anymore? I guess because the unions would drive the price up to $56.00 before shipping. I would have paid the $14.99 for the timer alone. This thing is great. It's loud, which is what you need if you're not going to be standing over your canner for 90 minutes. It will function as a countdown timer up to 99 minutes and also as a stopwatch. Only three buttons, very accessible and rubber sealed. Super intuitive, you can throw the directions for the timer away!. It has a clip on the back which also functions as a stand AND it has a magnet on the back so you can stick it on your fridge. Comes with AAA battery. As I say, worth the $14.99 alone! The rest is well made and well formed. The air removal blade with the magnet on the end was bigger than I thought it would be but it works great! The only thing I haven't used is the jar lid remover. It's heavy duty metal, I was expecting some pretty light weight stuff for the price but I was pleasantly surprised. Good stuff for an incredible price. It's all there in one stop, I was ready to can right away!

This is the first year we decided to start canning vegetables from our garden. We were amazed at the quality of the items within this kit. Usually, when you get reasonable priced kits like this, there might be one or two standout items and the rest are cheap pieces of useless plastic. This is not the case here. Everything works as expected and is coated in a nice rubber grip which is good considering everything gets wet with all the steam from sterilizing the cans. The magnet on the timer comes in handy when you want to keep it away from all the mess and put it on the refrigerator at eye level so you can just quickly glance at the time. The lid lifter is very useful as well since its little magnet makes it much easier to pick up the tops out of the boiling water instead of using tongs to fish around for them. I would highly recommend this kit to anyone who needs all the utensils necessary for canning. You will use everything in the kit and its all very well made and should last a long time.

This is a great set of canning tools! The funnel fits perfectly in the top of jars and makes for easy canning. The jar lifter is what I really wanted from this set and it works well! The non-slip grip that wraps around the ridge of the jar is really reassuring and helps jars come out easily. The kitchen tongs are just your average tongs, so I use them outside of my canning adventures. I've used the combination bubble remover/lid lifter once to pack down sauerkraut in my jars and several other times to fish out my rings/lids. It's a little strange to use; I'm sure a butter knife/spoon/tongs would work just as well. The timer is a simple kitchen timer, but it doesn't have an off button. Because of this, I tend to keep the battery out of mine so that it doesn't drain away when I don't use it. The jar wrench is completely useless as far as I can tell. Your rings should never be tightened so much that you need to use the wrench to get them loosened. The pieces themselves all appear to be quality made; the non-slip grip hasn't peeled or faded with continued washing in the dishwasher, and the metal components are pretty solid. This is a great choice if you are looking for all the canning essentials (and then some) in one kit.

The skinny tool with the magnetic end that lifts your lids out of boiling water - but wait - ALSO de-bubbles your jars is worth the price of the whole set. Hard to find this tool. I have only seen it in sets but I now cannot live without it.(I have 2) I use it every single time I can. It does 2 jobs and is easy to store in a drawer. I love it. All the other tools in the set are standard and useful. But buy it for the lid lifter/de-bubbler tool.

We had a few of the items in this kit already but felt the price was worth having duplicates. The timer worked well, the tools are as described, and the funnel itself is worth the purchase price. The jar lifter is an exact copy of our old Ball brand jar lifter except for color. PROS: All the basics together in one kit, Good quality for the price point, excellent coating adhesion on the metal tools (the green part), cleaned up easily, wash ell with warm soapy water before using tools, don't wash the timer. Cons: Made in China Do yourself a favor and purchase this tool kit when you buy your first book on home canning, you are going to need them.

Really good set. I’m a complete Canning-novice and wasn’t sure why the jar opener was included since there would be no jars to open. Then I got it. Even though the jars went into the pressure canner with the ring only finger-tip tight, they came out really tight. That’s when the jar opener came in really handy. All the tools have a solid, substantial weight to them and are of very good quality. The only thing that would’ve made this set really complete is if they would’ve included a lid opener.

This set is quite useful. The most important pieces for me are the large funnel, the jar lifter, and the magnet tool. The device for opening jar lids is not so good for small lids but it is awesome for regular jars. It is by far the most used item of the kit! The clock is on all the time displaying 000, unless I take of the battery. I wonder how soon the battery needs to be changed. The magnet is a good thing as it can be easily stuck to the fridge or any other magnetic metal piece. Other than that, this kit is very useful for canning. I only do gem but it's still good for sterilizing the jars.
