Luthor (DC Black Label Edition) Review: Excellent stuff! 4.5 stars! - I can't emphasize enough now much I enjoyed this book. The characterization of Luthor as a militant humanist is just so good! And him playing Xanatos Speed Chess with all of Metropolis, with Superman and even with Brucie Wayne, just (chef's kiss). I demerit half a star because while the art is good, detailed, striking work by a talented art team, it's not too my taste. Not... comic-y enough, I guess. Too much realism. Review: The man of steel in flesh and blood - The deep painting style and first-person perspective tell the story of the confrontation between mortals and gods that worth collecting.

Great story, bad cartoonist choice
This comic has a fantastic idea, focusing on the man instead of the god. It grips the reader with a mythic story reminiscent of Rome. However the style of the animation/drawing somehow diminishes the grandiose scale of the story. Something else would be more engaging/entertaining.

The greatest experience put on paper.
If you are a fan of comic books or fiction in general, this is it. This is the Pinnacle of writing and art. It doesnt get any better than this. You wont regret buying this.

I liked this take on Luthor
I've had a real appreciation for Lex Luthor's quality as a villain over the years, at least in some incarnations (really loved him in Young Justice), but I really like the idea that his fears about what Superman's presence means for mankind's future isn't some cynical pose covering up the threat Superman represents to Luthor's own ego and legacy. As Christina Dee put it in her long-running Cat Tales, the normal take on Luthor is never had to suffer the indignity of there existing honors he couldn't earn or buy until the Man of Steel came knocking, hence his hatred. But here it's genuinely not his ego, or at least not primarily his ego, driving his decisions.

Lexi
Lex falls in love with his Vision... its cool how little Superman is in this story. Its even cooler adding Bruce Wayne in as 2 rich dudes bro down over dinner. Cool story.

A Fresh Take on Lex, but Falls a Little Short
Lex Luthor: Man of Steel offers an interesting perspective on one of DC's most iconic villains, but it doesn't fully hit the mark for me. The story explores Lex Luthor as more than just Superman’s enemy, presenting him as a complex character with deeper motivations. I appreciated seeing the world through Lex's eyes—he believes he's the true hero of humanity, which is a fresh and intriguing angle. The art is stunning and definitely captures the atmosphere of the story. However, the pacing felt off at times, and certain plot points seemed rushed or underdeveloped. I also felt like Lex's motivations were a bit repetitive, and while his character depth was a plus, the story didn’t always capitalize on the more nuanced aspects of his psyche. Overall, Lex Luthor: Man of Steel is worth a read if you're a fan of the character, but don't expect to be blown away. It's solid, but not groundbreaking.

Interesting Perspective
Being a Superman fan since the late 50s, Luthor was always the villain. This story is from his point of view where he, as an Alpha human male, sees Superman & his actions as an invasion. I'm glad I bought this one.

Good art. Mature drawings and expressive. Drawer world expresses nature of man in the best possible ways. Azzarello gives humour to the horror.

This is an interesting one, this DC Black Label release of Luthor is actually Luthor: Man of Steel #1-5 (it isn't stated on the back but rather on the inside) that was originally released in 2005 reprinted under DC Black Label for it's 10th anniversary, Luthor is written by Brian Azzarello and art from Lee Bermejo. I should say that I'm very new to Superman comics having only read my first last night which was Frank Miller's recently released Superman Year One, I picked this up simply because I read Azzarello's Joker and figured I might as well pick up Luthor as well for some incentive to get into Superman. As I've already stated I'm not familiar with Superman comics, I've only gotten into them maybe a year ago, I've known the characters since I was a kid but this was a real treat and Azzarello has possibly given me a new favourite villain with the depth and complexity of the character. I won't give away the story but instead give an idea of what the idea of this comic is. This is the perspective of Luthor and the belief that Superman is a threat to the human race, everyone else loves Superman but Luthor questions when and if Superman, an unstoppable alien being could change his opinions on humanity and instead use his power against it. Luthor is an idealist who sees the unstoppable threat Superman poses and wants to prevent it. A thing I love about this story is that it shows that Luthor genuinely cares for humanity, he may do some bad but does good as well, he's not a straightforward bad guy like say the Joker giving a layer of depth and complexity that other villains lack and it's is deeply appreciated here. Overall, I found this a fantastic read and easily favoured it over Azzarello's Joker, the artwork is decent but the story is the center of attention for me. If you want a different perspective of Lex Luthor and an entertaining read look no further, you may be just as surprised as I was. This comic has given me a different view as to how I will look at the character and I'm glad to have read it so early on in my adventure through Superman comics because I will always think of Lex the way Azzarello has. I will be including several pictures of the artwork and for the reasonable price urge anyone who is curious about this, especially Superman fans into picking this up. Hopefully you found this review helpful and happy reading.
