⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5-Star Review – Evans G2 Coated 16" Tom Drumhead 🥁🔥
The Evans G2 Coated 16" Drumhead is a perfect blend of warmth, power, and control. From the moment you put it on your tom, you can tell that Evans designed this head with both sound and performance in mind. Whether you are a casual player or a performing drummer, this head will make your toms sound professional and full. 🎧 Sound Quality The sound is absolutely beautiful — deep, rich, and powerful. The G2 features two plies of 7mil film, which gives it a fat tone with just the right amount of sustain. The coated finish adds warmth and a slightly textured attack that works great for rock, pop, fusion, or gospel. Every hit feels balanced: the lows are thick, the mids are punchy, and the highs are smooth. The resonance is controlled but never dull, giving your toms a clear and focused voice. 🪄 Ease of Use This head is very easy to tune. Thanks to Evans’ Level 360 collar design, it sits perfectly on the drum shell, allowing even tension and faster tuning. It stays in tune well, even after long practice or gig sessions. Whether you prefer a low, warm rumble or a higher, cutting tone, the G2 responds beautifully to different tuning ranges. 🧱 Build Quality & Durability The build quality is excellent. The double-ply construction makes it durable enough to handle heavy hitters without denting or wearing out quickly. The coating lasts a long time, maintaining both its tone and feel even after hours of playing. It’s a head you can rely on for both studio work and live performances. 🔊 Overall Impression The Evans G2 Coated 16" Drumhead delivers professional-level sound, consistency, and durability at a great price. It brings your toms to life, making them sound warm, punchy, and controlled without losing their natural character. Whether you’re a rock drummer, a worship player, or just jamming for fun, this head performs beautifully in every setting. 🎯 Final Verdict: The Evans G2 Coated is everything you want in a tom head — big tone, easy tuning, and long-lasting performance. An easy 5 out of 5 stars! 🌟💯🥁

Update from D'Addario 9-17-20: Double ply heads like the G2 have air trap holes (just one) on the under ply so air can escape from the two plies that are married together – not the same as an air vent for a Dry head. If any of your double ply heads don’t show the hole towards an 1” out from the rim, they’re under the collar – just an older way of doing things, now we punch the hole outside of the collar so less air is trapped. Original It's hard to blame Amazon for two drums that had the same pin head perforation in the same place. (see image 1)On a replacement however, the second Evans box was bent (not the Amazon outer box) and this caused a severe warp in the metal ring. Likely from stocking or shipment from the distributor. If you paid new, be sure and get new, undamaged. I have written to Evans (D'Addario) about the two issues via their web site. The "Visit Evans Store" on Amazon takes you to an engine coolant manufacturer. I wrote to Amazon about this as well. Outside of all of this, my other Evans G2 heads appear fine. I replaced the Remo Emperors I had on the kit. I put the Remos as the reso head. Sound incredible have thick heads on both top and bottom vs. thinner heads as the reso head. I used small window/door weather stripping vs Remo Rings or duct tape to deaden the sound

A very versatile head.
I have been playing these heads on my snare drums for about 5 years now and love them. Out of my 11 snare drums, all but 3 have a coated g2's on them. I started out playing Remo heads in the beginning, and while they do sound good the coating starts coming off immediately. As in after 20 min of playing you already have an area with coating coming off. So I tried Evans and never looked back. I chose the g2 because the two plies are very durable and last a good amount of time even with decently heavy hitting. The coating lasts weeks, and the plies barely ever get stick craters in them. They seat nicely, especially since Evans came out with their Level 360 collar system, which gives you an even seat all the way around the bearing edge. I have coated g2's on brass, African mahogany, steel, maple, and aluminum drums, and they all sound great. They also work just as well on toms, which I have on my gig kit toms. Overall the coated g2 is a great sounding, durable, and affordable head for toms and snare drums.

Buy them.
Best heads on the market. Period. I won't sit here and go over my percussion vitae. These are the absolute best.

Will always give Evans some love, particularly because they often give as good or better quality than Remos at better price points. That said, 6 inch tom drums are interesting sound wise. Was trying to find some thing that might give the tom a warm sound. This didn't quite achieve that. Might try the Evans onyx series or possibly even remo ebony emporer or pinstripe. Might be a lost cause...6" is crazy treble!
