Great choice for an EDC knife.
The Esse 4P-MB has a full tang blade. The one I purchased has a Dark Earth color blade treatment. It's really substantial because I've beat this blade up and no signs of damage to the blade coating yet. I've batoned it through lots of logs. Still no damage. The thick full tang blade makes work like this a breeze and gives you a sense of security when you've got to do brutal work like this with your knife that at the end, your tool will be unscathed. The high carbon steel holds an edge well and it's easy enough to keep it razor sharp with just a little maintenance. The molded sheath is tight and has a loud click as the blade is returned to the sheath. The blade retention is excellent. The customizable plate on the back can be configured for normal carry or scout carry. I've carried the blade in both configurations and it worked great in both methods of carry. I love the handle of the 4P-MB. I've gotten it wet and bloody and the handle doesn't slip from your hand. All in all I love this blade and I trust it with my life to be there when I need it. This is a bulletproof choice for a tough use fixed bladed knife.

Great knife
Very sturdy, very high quality. I purchased one with the contoured handles as well and the grip on this one is good but I prefer the contoured handles for a medium size hand. The only thing that I'm less than thrilled with is the powder coat finish. It is thick and rough, I'm going to leave it for now but may strip it off and put an acid patina on the blade if it impacts the daily chores. I have this blade in stainless as well and it's a beautiful knife that cuts very smoothly. If you are rough on your knives this workhorse will stand up to the abuse. If you want more of a daily chore knife the stainless with the contoured handle would probably be the better option.

Feels great in your hand and is VERY sharp and sturdy.
Love this knife. Some reviews mention issues with it getting dirty easily. I guess those people don't like to actually use their gear. The grippy micarta scales feel great in the hand while being very durable. Yes they are porus and retain sweat and grime, but that's fine by me. The plastic sheath has great retention that takes a little getting used to, but it loosens up a little with some breaking in, and I'm not worried about losing my knife. No need to make it "jump ready" while walking around camp. but you could. It came VERY sharp. Shave the hair on my arm sharp. You do have to keep it dry and preferably treat it with something for long term storage (I use a tuf-cloth) in order to avoid corrosion, but that's how it is with this type of steel. I haven't had any corrosion yet. Batons and wittles like a champ. And all of the accessories and hardware are very high quality.

Very tough and good looking knife
Very tough and good looking knife . I added a 90 degree spine in back to be able to use a ferro rod. The plastic molded sheath and molle attacthment are of high quality although the plastic sheath had a way higher retention for my liking . Easy fix i lightly dremmeled two little nubs that hold the knife in place, careful though too much and it will ruin the retention so start slow. I added a Condor 4" Molle Mod strap so I can use the sheath as a dangler . I love all the esee knifes my two favorites have to be the Esee 6 and the Camp Lore RB3 . The six is a nice do everything knife from batoning to fine detail work and the RB3 with that true zero degree bevel scandi it's excellent for detail wood working and it's insanely sharp.

Outstanding Knife
I have used this knife in military and civilian capacities. Cannot recommend it enough. Tough as nails, good grip, perfect size, etc. Recommend to everyone I talk to about needing a fixed blade knife. Well worth the price.

Perfect Knife...with one small exception
I almost wet myself when I took this knife out of the sheath for the first time!!! It's frickin' beautiful. Super sharp out of the box, heavy- duty, full tang blade for serious defense and reliable bushcraft...but not too long or too heavy. The Micarta handle has a real nice grip and feels awesome in my hand. Thought I was getting a dark brown sheath/Molle back. In fact the photo shows a dark brown sheath/Molle back, whereas the description says black. No worries since the tan handle/black sheath colors basically disappear on my Osprey pack which is sweet. TIP: If your planning on hiking with this, I recommend you attach the sheath to the Molle back as opposed to the belt clip. Belt clip only is too loose for me. Molle back gives you more attachment options on your pack or on your person. I mounted it to the left side of my pack, with the handle pointed right for a cross draw. If you mount to a Molle vest, you have additional options. TIP: if you're gonna get this wet all the time or you don't like a coated blade, then order the uncoated version, or maybe the stainless steel version. The exception or reason I subtracted one star is the locking nubs on the sheath are already rubbing off the Micarta finish where they touch the handle. ESEE should redo the locking design in my opinion. Otherwise, this is an outstanding knife for the price.

Deserves 6 stars!
I can’t add much that hasn’t already been said about this knife. Some have complained about the handle. I really like it and find it very comfortable. Over all a really beautiful knife, well made and tough as they come. High quality for sure! I’ve had it a few weeks now and had to order a custom Kydex sheath from Armatus Carry Solutions. Purely personal choice. The stock sheath is completely acceptable.. Buy this knife, you won’t regret it!
