Totally delighted. This thumb piano arrived in fine shape but for the tines or thumb keys which needed to be adjusted. The simple instructions for this were easy enough for me to follow so that I was able to tune this for use with other instruments as well. Be careful not to over work the screws. The sound it makes was charming even before it was tuned. The hand painted surface on the one I received is not at all the same pattern as the one in the Amazon picture but it is just as festive; I'm not disappointed. I'm a music hobbyist with a number of both electric and acoustic instruments and I like experimenting with new sounds. I have found the unique sound of this primitive instrument to be an interesting addition to my collection but I would like to think that part of its appeal is that it's a charming piece of hand made artwork as well.

I received our kalimba today and it was not the same one pictured and it was covered with brown dust. Covered! I clean it, no problem. But I fully expected the product I purchased. The sound also seemed pretty dull after tuning unfortunately, and very poorly crafted. I read the description stated above and began to move the tines up and down to tune it, and immediately a portion of what I thought was wood, broke off into dust. I pressed on the broken "wood" piece and it was squishy like FOAM and does not hold at all! I will be returning ours. Bummer it didn't work out.

Bought as a present for the grandkid. Pretty, reasonably well-made. However, I had to adjust the tension screws as the center tine vibrated badly. Might have just been change in humidity or whatever, and easily fixed.

Lovely piece - purchased as a gift for a music instructor. The quality is excellent, sound is beautiful, only disappointment is that the displayed image is not necessarily accurate. Should have assumed that a hand painted item may have some differences - my colors are red, green, and yellow with very different design...not quite what I bargained for, but charming nonetheless. Perfect as a unique gift for any music lover!

I ordered this beautifully painted item as a gift and instead I got a cheaper plain one. I am returning it and not sure about trying to reorder it as I may get the same error.

Absolutely beautiful instrument, very authentic. Comes with a "made in" sticker that adds to the charm. Also came with some promotional information about charities that are helped by the making of the kalimbas. Works great, the piano-playing gift recipient absolutely loves it and finds hours of entertainment.

I guess I should've looked at the reviews closer. I really wanted the one pictured but what I got was not even close. It's red and green with a dolphin on it. It's like a Christmas meets Flipper mashup. Not cute. Not happy. I bought this as a gift but I won't be giving this one.
