Excellent Starter Set
This set is a great option to have when you have some people who may want to try magic, but you don't want to throw all the complicated mechanics of your own home made decks at them. By having each color represented pretty to close to what that color does best, and a description card detailing the strengths of each deck, it makes it easy for someone to select it and have a general idea how it should be played. The cards are all fairly straightforward. There are not complicated mechanics that can bog down a new player right away. However, that does not mean that these are so simple that a veteran can't enjoy them. I found a mixed group of new players and veterans had a good time playing this. I treat it more like a board game than the Magic I play with my veteran friends. As far as the actual items go the decks are great. Good assortment of cards, these are not just junk solo color decks, but have some cool things in them. The extras are all great though, dice, cardboard +/- counters, and a good assortment of double sided tokens make this easily playable right out of the gate. Now I did sleeve mine so I will use a separate box to store the cards, but the box itself is good quality, so I am using it as an accessory box for more dice and tokens. I think my only issue here is that I wish it would have come with some normal dice, standard 6 sided, just to use for misc. counters and what not. This set has definitely been helpful in getting people to try Magic for the first time. Should make it easy for you to teach someone how to play.

Fun for starters, and really everyone.
My kids got into Magic at school. While I’d not played before, they were really into it and I saw a good family game night opportunity (quite literally spelled out here!). This box has everything you need to get going with five players, including life counters (dice), decks, and bonus markers. The game is mostly balanced, and for that matter lets you know the complexity level of the deck you choose. Instructions were also easy enough to get through for first timers. This basically scratched the surface and got me and the kids much more interested (all three of us are building our own decks for more competitive games) but we still pull this out when we all want to play without anyone being too powerful. Really solid set here though, and easy to recommend. My youngest for reference is 9. He gets it mostly, but needs help and pointers on occasion. My 12 year old definitely doesn’t need any help!

Great way to learn Magic - Fun at parties!
I've brought this to game night a few times. I've taught about five new players how to Magic with this set. The instruction book is great, the decks are easy to learn, the game is balanced and the extras like dice and counter tokens are really nice to have. As for the cost/entertainment value of this set, don't hesitate to buy it if you're looking to entertain your friends more than you are to compete with experienced players.

Great Product
I got this for my 9 year old stepson since I thought he would like it. I know just a little about the game but would consider myself beginner. We were a little intimidated by learning how to play but once we got around to it we found it very straightforward because the decks are so well put together. He watched a video once and then we just played and he kind of walked me through the steps as we went along. Between that and the included booklet we were fine. His twin sister even joined and the game was relatively smooth considering none of us had played before. Altogether a beautifully put together product perfect for beginners! I have no doubts that more seasoned players would be entertained as well. I would certainly recommend it to friend.

Great and well balanced
Great to play when there’s no time to build a deck! decks are evenly made and you can play them multiple ways and they still work perfectly. I wish it still came with a pack or two though, or even a poster like the fat packs.

nice set and good value
I played years ago when the game was new. fast forward 20 plus years and I thought it would be fun for my kids, five in all, to try out the game. We got it in and had fun looking at all the cards, artwork and skills of the cards. Game is cool but a little overwhelming at first figuring out how to play again. I looked on youtube and found a few game reviews by pro MTG players of this set. After watching them play a few rounds, it was easier to do. The manual is pretty good but the game is pretty complex and hard to explain in a manual. All in all, it is a great set.

Perfectly Executed Product
This product is perfect for introducing new players to MTG. I bought it to teach my son and daughter how to play since I used to play this all the time in the 90s. It was a great experience and the decks are well made so no one player feels over powered. The handy dice and phase check list cards for each deck made it simple for us to get up and running playing the game again.

Best Magic Product I Have Ever Seen
Wizards hit it out of the park with this set. Not only are the decks tremendously well constructed compared to other premades I have used, but they're wonderfully balanced against each other as well and fantastic introductions to all the different colors and what they do. I highly recommend this to new players over the traditional 2-player Learn to Play sets that only familiarize you with 2 of the colors and therefore a fraction of the mechanics of the game. I would absolutely purchase different editions of this set and think all new preconstructed decks should be designed to interact like these and offered in a similiar bundle.
