PacTool SA904 30-Inch Angle Measuring Tool - Aluminum Gable Scribe - Professional/Contractor Grade Tools

This device is okay. I tried to use it earlier to measure the angle for my trim, but it didn't work so well. Hopefully when I get to siding it works better! UPDATE: I now have 1 side of my garage done that I was actually able to use this product. Honestly this product is great. I feel kind of stupid however, because I didn't realize it slides through and does both left and right sides. Because the screw is dimpled and doesn't come out, I thought it was poor design, but really it's a poor user. Once I accidentally figured it out that it slides through for both left and right sides, i'm super happy. Perfect every time. Makes me look like I do even better work than most siding crews.

Easy to find any angle, also used it as a guide for my circular saw for precise cuts.

This is an outstanding tool for measuring, and cutting angles for an A frame, or any large angle cuts. Excellent tool.

Great concept but the screws fell out in the first couple of minutes. I replaced them with my own screws. Luckily I was able to recover the plastic spacers. I placed a lock tight nut on the pivot spot and it has worked perfectly.

I read the reviews about this item and wondered about it’s quality, but having to be accurate with cuts on a current project I gave it a try. Reviews said it was flimsy and you could lose screws easily, so I paid close attention to making sure the screws were tight. I love this scribe, it has a great design and is easy to use with perfect results. This item is probably not going to work for you if you find yourself frequently throwing your tools into the back of your truck at the end of the day, or if you give it to your lead man of a large crew. Treat it like a precision instrument, i.e. a laser level or transit and it’ll work just fine. The cutting guide works perfectly with the SS424 Snapper Shears.

I quite like this tool and use it on every job. However it doesn’t hold up well to being bounced around. The very first time I attempted to use it as a guide for shears on lap siding it rattled several screws out and I spent some time trying to find screws / washers / spacers and putting it back together. Some were never recovered which puts a sour taste in my mouth. I would recommend getting some threadlocker and going through it before ever putting it in the field. Pactool should be doing this in the factory. My only other complaint would be that you can only tighten the thumbscrew from one side which makes it a little bit harder than it should be to set the gable angle on certain situations.

This worked great. Easy to use. A real time saver Update 2/1/2020 Yes the gage still works great , however for a construction site professional use tool it kinda fragile. Mine is now not useable because one of the screws fell out and was lost on the site. For what this cost it should be made better. Now I have to find a screw that will work to fix it.

The idea behind this product is good. The execution is not. There is too much slop in this tool to be useful. There is 5/16 of slop in the tool, no matter how tight you turn the knob. It needs to be redesigned and better quality is a must. Good idea, worthless tool.

Works better than thought it would, makes life way easier

Flimsy and not a tool that you can rely on to do an accurate, professional job. If you want to do a crappy job, use this tool. Don't waste your money, like I did.

I bought this for marking gables for siding and I went to set the angle and the knob spun off and now it won't tighten. Very disappointed after be excited to try it. For the cost of the tool you would hope it would be more durable.

Screws fell out and can't find them. Now I have to custom order new screws

The knob is pressed on and by the time I used it twice I was passed the return date terrible product
