The Artist's Guide to Drawing Animals: How to Draw Cats, Dogs, and Other Favorite Pets

I got this as a christmas gift for my sister. My sister loves to draw and has been a pretty good artist for years. She asked for some drawing and colored pencil books for christmas. I saw this book in the local book store and in my amazon search. So i purchased this on amazon. The directions and illustrations are wonderful and there are many different animals in different poses to learn how to draw. She drew a picture of a horse's head and showed me the picture. The detail is amazing. I think this book helped giver her pointers on how to really refine and detail her drawings. I also got her a book on how to color in animals with colored pencils (Realistic Pet Portraits in Colored Pencil by Anne Flood). That book has beautiful color drawings and i'm waiting to see what my sister will color in with that book. I recommend The Artist's guide to drawing animals for anyone who wants to make more detailed drawings.

This book will make me draw animals ! I dont know how to draw animals at all but this one will be the perfect guide ! I really recommend it for who ever wants to draw pets especially cats and dogs , it has cats dogs horses goats , sheep , cattle , alpacas , llamas , pigs , cows , bulles , Rodents , mice , rats , hamsters , gerbils , guinea pigs , chinchillas , Rabbits , ferrets , birds and lizards (cold blooded animals) I cant write it all its a lot XD but Im happy getting this book

Purchased this as a Christmas present for my 6-year old who loves horses and is an avid equestrian. She loves it! She turned right to the page with the horse illustrations and started sketching.....then added a sketch of herself on the horse! The author shows the simple steps to achieve a beautiful animal illustration. Many animals are featured. Great for both the novice and advanced artist. Would highly recommend!

My 10 year old daughter is an aspiring artist. She has recently gotten into drawing animals and this was a good book to help her along her artist path.

A wonderful book for learning to draw animals. I bought one for my niece and myself. As with any drawing book, it gives examples and explanations, but it also requires the individual learning to apply themselves. Don't expect 1000 pictures for every drawing; the pictures and instructions are good, but if your expecting a mark by mark instructional, you probably need to purchase a video. Personally, I really like the book, but I'm a novice, not a beginner. Having said that, my niece is a beginner and she loves the book too.

Excellent resource

I've wanted this book for quite awhile and patience paid off. I got it used for about a third of retail, it arrived on time, and it's like new. I like that it shows the skeletons of various animals, too. Will be fun to do some with a Halloween theme. Thank you.

This book is more than I expected. At first I only looked for how to make sketches of dogs, but I see that I can make all kinds of animals that I like. It was worth buying it.

This book covers the basics of successfully drawing a large number of species. The stages of each drawing are very clear and anatomically correct as well as aesthetically pleasing. Very useful as a guide and interesting to sit and casually study. It makes drawing an animal within everyone's skill set and removes the trepidation about where and how to start.
