Wilson Smart Core Golf Ball - Pack of 24 (White)

This is a fantastic ball for the money. They feel great off the driver and off the irons, even producing excellent backspin off the wedges. They work perfectly for softer greens and I find these to be excellent balls for the colder rounds where you're getting reps in. I don't know how they hold the greens during summer but i was able to make this ball track back on wedge shots no problem during a PNW November round. They feel fantastic off the tee and also with the irons. Wedge shots, pitch and chips are all outstanding and this $1 ball is pretty remarkable in that sense. It's a little softer ball than what I'm used to (Z Star in the Summer) but I can appreciate the extra distance in the colder months. I believe this to be a great all around ball for maybe 90% of recreational players. If you're getting more than 270 on the driver this may be too soft a ball but even then I believe it'll still play well. The one and only down side I found from my round today was the feel off the putter. Definitely feels like a $1 ball and sounds cheap when putting. This is a small issue that's easily acceptable because it does everything else so well for a discount ball. If Wilson put a urethane cover these would be amazing but then it'll probably be a $2 ball. Still would be great value imo..

They work well for my swing. Nice price for a ball that works for me. Like I said they do scuff pretty easy. I will continue to use them.

These were fun. Enjoyed using them, felt good off the tee and approach. Seemed like good quality, easy to distinguish from other white balls, solid choice

I've been playing golf a long time, shoot in the 80,s and have used all manner of ball. And this works as good as the next one but is a lot less expensive. That said, I think there's something to the "smart core" with regard to hitting straighter shots... ok - now I've played with this twice, 9 holes each time, and here's my impressions... - I've shot my two best scores of the year - coincidence? And actually, I would have had the best score of my life for 9-holes yesterday except for a mental lapse on the last hole. I was 1-over through 7, had a 3-putt bogey on 8 (from 50-feet) arrggg to go to 2-over. Easy, short par 4 for the last hole - par to tie my best score - smashed my 3H 230 yards leaving myself an easy 95-yards to a really wide green. But ..... pin was tucked way to the left beside a trap. I should have hit for the middle of the green but I aimed for the pin, caught the corner of the trap, took 2 to get out and then 3-putted from 50-feet - ARRRRGGGG! 5-over, 41 - still tied my best 9-hole score of the year, but I easily could have been 2-over! - My chipping and pitching has been much better. I don't hit high flop-shots so spin shouldn't be an issue, but I'm getting up and down from around the green a lot more. - I hit a Hybrid 3 off the tee and have hit 12 of 14 fairways (and the two I missed hit trees and bounced back out!), which is great and whereas I usually have a big draw, I seem to now have a small draw which is better. Again - not sure if it's the ball or the fact that I've been working really hard on hitting fairways, even at the expense of distance (thus the 3 hybrid off the tee) - Distance, maybe a tad less than the pinnacle soft I was hitting before, but like most mid/high handicap golfers my distance varies a lot from shot to shot so it's hard to really tell. For example my 3-hybrid I'm hitting anywhere between 190-240 with this ball. The wide range of distances obviously goes to the fact that my ball striking is very inconsistent, as opposed to the ball. Still - that's about what I would expect, distance wise with another ball. I notice that with the last ball I tried out (Pinnacle soft) I would occasionally flush an iron and get 20-30 yards longer than normal (like 170 on the fly with an 8-iron), and that hasn't happened with this ball, which I guess is a good thing since, especially with high irons, you need to be able to know how far the ball is going to go. - A strange thing is that with this ball, I simply am not getting good contact with my mid-irons off of the fairway. I presume that's me, but it's been 18 holes without a single, really good mid/long iron shot. I'm just not picking them up and then getting low ball flight, etc. but straight, so even my misses tend to be good which has contributed to my good scores. - Putting...again, I find it hard to see how a ball could affect putting, but I've been making all of my 3-5 footers, and only 3-putting from 40+ feet, so that's been good.

Went and did a comparison today on 3 balls. All new... Wilson Zip, Wilson Smartcore and a Srixon Z-star. I am not a super hero by any stretch, I am a 13 handicap. To my amazement the smartcore won. Each drive off the tee was within about 5 yards of each other. But time and time again the smartcore was the straightest. From 100 yards the smartcore would stop on contact. The zip would roll out about 5 or 6 feet and the Z-star would back up 2-3 feet. 50 yards in. The smart core would roll out about 10-15 feet, same with zip's. Z-star would stop dead. So 50 yards in the Z-star was the best but knowing the smart core will roll out a bit you can play for it. Now the strange part, it it may just be me but my putts with the smartcore where great. I play with a light-ish putter and the 85 comprsession ball felt great. Time and time again lags where closest with the smartcore. Iron test: The smartcore had a very solid feel off the clubface and great sound. The Zip felt like a marshmallow and was mostly quite. The Z-star had a nice feel but lacked that smashed it sound. Now durability: Both the Zip and Z-start had cut marks at the end of the round. Enought so that both went into the shag bag when I got home. The smartcore was still in great shape, and ready for more. The last few years I have been strictly a Z-star guy. But their cost and durability where starting to trouble me. On a whim I decided to Buy some cheapo smartcores and zips and see if a cheap ball could work for me. I am glad I did. At about 50 cents per ball, the smartcore may be the best bargain in the game of golf.

I usually don’t write reviews but I am most impressed with these balls. These balls are straight and reduce spin off the drive and sold around the green. Granted, they may not spin as good as more expensive balls on short chips and real fast greens, but they will play well in public golf courses. I say if you are a high to mid handicap player, these balls help you. Beyond that, it may feel too soft and light for more advanced hitters. One reviewer mentions not sounding good off the putter but I have not noticed any difference. It rolls true if you make a good putt.
