WOW
Sounds GREAT! The sound quality is amazing. My voice sounds identical on the mic to what it sounds like in person. My audience (I use this for a radio show/podcast I do) noticed the clarity of my voice. There was definitive difference in the bass in my voice - there's a lot less on this mic that the previous one I used. This was rectifiable with my mixer board but if you want a deep resonant tone this might not be the mic for you - but if you want great clarity and sound and seemingly sturdy quality, this is a great mic. I also compared this mic with the Shure SM58 sound wise, and I preferred this mic over that one sound wise - it's not as muddy - it's clearer and that's the sound I was going for so I bought this one. It was a bonus that it costs less.

What a great mic coming from decades of using Shure SM58!
Decided on getting this D5 just to see what else is available in the market that can make a positive impact for the vocalists in the family. After using for 2 months, everybody is loving the D5 for live performances. Compared to the SM58, the D5 is a little brighter and has much lesser proximity effect. This allows the vocalist to be closer to the mic which provides more detail in the voice to cut through the music.

A great mic from AKG
I had an AKG D88 years ago, and this is basically the follow up. It's a great microphone; I'm a big fan of the supercardioid pickup pattern for vocal microphones; I can turn up the gain enough to pick up a singer up to a foot away from the mic with no risk of feedback.

Crisp
This mic was a huge upgrade over my USB mic. The sound quality is unbelievable. Perfect for streaming.

I liked the sound it puts out
I've used this microphone maybe a dozen times and it stopped putting out any signal. When it worked, I liked the sound it puts out. I also have a Sure Beta87A and this mic sounds similar, which is impressive since it is a condenser mic. The overall construction of the mic is solid and very roadworthy. Perhaps the switchless version doesn't fail as this one did. Regardless, AKG is providing me a replacement since the mic comes with a 2 year warranty. Hopefully the new one lasts.

Good sound
Much better sound quality than the mic I was replacing. On off switch is convenient, comfortable to hold and sing with. It was recommend from a friend and doesn’t disappoint.

quality not what I expected
Product was broken upon arrival, had to fix wires inside mike, were pulled loose from connections, it would not operate.

I am very satisfied with the Output. The 70Hz low end Roll off helps vocalists sound better before EQuing as compared to Shure SM 58. I love both the mics but I will go with D5S because of this feature and its supreme build quality. I am also using a windcutter to omit extra pops. I am already using AKG P420 and D5s makes an amazing addition to my gears. Really loving the output.

AKG - what can I say. This is top shelf and nothing below. The transducer has a built-in buffer under the generous sized outer mesh cover (which also has a light wind-sock built in to it) For those unexpected pops that can destroy speakers, this has a flexible cone (think of the movement of a speaker cone as it flexes with the bass beats) and absorbs sound pops from those who "need to be heard" - while speaking into it. It is more of a high-impedance mic but does not have a switch to click into a lower impedance if needed. I am sure this is by design. I have found that keeping the master volume level down to half or slightly over is the perfect setting on a mixer. The sound produced from this model (D5S) is crystal clear and also helps to absorb annoying highs where clear treble frequencies can be lost. It is a solid build with all metal construction and the switch is soft and on-point every time (ie: no excess movement). Combine this model with a high-quality oxygen-free, lossless cable and you've got a winner. Just keep the mic at least 5 to 6 feet away from your closest speaker, otherwise you may get that terrible feedback squeel if your mic volume is turned up just a bit much. Speaking a touch louder and clear into the mic will cover the loss of volume on a mixer's microphone volume knob. Top quality and a good warranty too. Definitely purchase this for a wired mic. They sound so much better than anything I've owned by other top manufacturers. Great service from Japan too. Arrived in Canada on my doorstep in 4 days from the original order. Just don't send to a P.O box or you've got troubles in shipping. Send to a physical numbered address or use Amazon's pickup location service. But wow, way to go with this one AKG. I will be buying your products again.

Excellent Mic, I made the switch from Shure SM58 two years ago having used one at a larger gig with a hired PA company. It made my voice sound warmer, more rounded! The sound engineer had an SM58 set up for me originally, but my voice sounded a bit nasal & Honky? He changed the mic to an AKG D5 and the difference was amazing, so much so that I went out the next day & bought one. I play with a number of Bands, mainly playing drums & singing backing vocals, I found an immediate difference when we used our own PA. The only Problem was I was getting a lot of spill from the kit especially when I moved the mic away for numbers I did not sing on. So the ideal solution was to get a D5 with a switch! So far it is perfect! I'm not saying the D5 is a better mic than the SM58, I am saying that the D5 is a better mic for me, it is more suited to my voice. If you are looking for a mic then definitely check out the AKG D5! The D5S is exactly the same but with a switch. They are a little harder to find, so when I saw one on-line I didn't hesitate I ordered it straight away from Amazon, it arrived 2 days later. Excellent service from Amazon as per usual. Great Price (a lot cheaper than the SM58)! Excellent Mic!!! PS Since I made the change to the D5, 2 other members of the Band have done the same thing, we are all very happy with the D5(s)!
