desertcart.com: Dark Nights: Metal: 9781401288587: Snyder, Scott, Capullo, Greg: Books Review: Awesome Culmination of Snyder's run - While it may not have worked for some who prefer a dark, brooding Batman, in my opinion, Snyder's run is my favorite Batman run, and one of my favorite comic book runs of all time. It had great storytelling, with clear defined arcs and good characterization, and probably the best Batman artist of this generation in Greg Capullo. Right up my alley. Then they follow it up with Dark Nights: Metal. Admittedly, it's a very bombastic blockbuster story, with not a lot of characterization and deep thought required to enjoy, but the reason this works for me is because we are already so familiar with Snyder's Batman characterization, that we get what is happening with the story already. For me, reading this in the middle of the King run provided such a great breather and change of pace from depressing and dark story-telling. The story's premise revolves around a dark multiverse with different versions of Batman that try to destroy the main universe, i.e. most crisis stories or any other big Marvel/DC story. But what makes this great is how it keeps everyone apart, Batman is doing his own thing for most of the story, while the rest of the heroes try to hold down the fort throughout the universe. There are many surprising appearances by many characters that I didn't expect, but were happy to see, such as Hawkman and Mogul, plus one more that I definitely didn't expect at all, but is a big spoiler, so I won't include. Capullo's art couldn't be better, with amazing pencils and coloring and inking by the same art team FCO Plascencia and Jonathan Glapion. Capullo goes full Spawn here with great details on gore and blood, and while it may seem a little gratuitous, works perfectly for what's happening in the story. In summary, great story and great art, and great conclusion for Snyder's Batman run (but we do have Last Knight on Earth still), while also providing a jumping off point for Snyder's Justice League run. Great recommendation Review: Satisfied - Arrived in good condition

A Rockin' Good Time
Look. Comic book events are inherently messy. They require a lot of background knowledge. They almost always have half a dozen tie-ins that aren't included in the main TPB. Lots of cities are destroyed. Characters breeze in and out and you go what the heck was that? Then you forget about it. And at the end there is some super cosmic thing that makes zero sense and then the status quo is changed as we know it. But knowing and moving past all of that, Dark Nights: Metal is, at the end of the day, a FUN event. Scott Snyder and Capullo are back, capping off a story seeded in their New 52 Batman run that revolves all around, you guessed it, Metal (both literal and musical), and introduces a new existential crisis from what we learn is the "dark" multiverse. One thing about Snyder is that he's a builder. From word puzzles, to animal facts, to multiverse maps, he always infuses his stories with an extreme level of detail in terms of plots and worldbuilding. It's part of what made the Court of Owls, Endgame, and his other Batman storylines so engrossing. If you liked his work there, chances are you like it here. In addition, as a not so small bonus, this event pulls off the amazing feat of re-contextualizing one of the most frustrating, messy chapters in Batman's history, the Grant Morrison era. Some people love it, some hate it. I'm in between but skew toward the latter. Morrison's Batman was IMO a purposefully convoluted, James Joyce-ian mess centered around a demonic Bat-god named Barbatos who screwed with Batman through the ages. Here, Snyder takes that chaotic mess and imposes his own kind of order on it, giving Barbatos a place in the multiverse (or dark multiverse) and structuring an explanation around him. That's a nigh-impossible feat. So for that alone he has my respect. Does this all make sense? Heck no. Did I follow every development with the universe vibrations and the thule and the thing and the metals. Not even close. But did I like seeing psychotic multiverse versions of Batman terrorize the world? Secondary characters like Detective Chimp get a bit more spotlight? Crazy Joker dragons and a twisted Carter Hall? You betcha. Don't think too hard about this one, and you'll really enjoy it, I think.

Epic
This book goes cosmic with the Justice League in a way that combines Scott Snyders optimism with Greg Capullo's tip of the hat to Jack Kirby, and Hellraiser. Capullo's character designs are so jaw droppingly cool, it makes his previous work on Batman seem tame. This book is a Rollercoaster acid trip that showcases Snyders love for DC, as well as his growth as a writer since penning Court of Owls. Snyder and Capullo's fearlessness in their approach to this story gave me a hit of the adrenaline I used to get when I read comics as a kid. I actually rolled a tear at the end. Highly recommended 👌

My brain cannot comprehend what is in this book
I loved the art. I mean, that’s one of the coolest pics around! I love just reading and “attempting “to understand. Multiverse stuff is something I can grasp, from time to time( get it? Time to , whatever) but when it gets to this level, in this event, nope. I’m out. It was so friggin confusing from start to finish. My mind is jello. Too much stuff here. I get the multiple characters from dimensions, all tha batmen, and that goes for everyone else, but seriously, this dark multiverse stuff and metals from other dimensions and something about music and chimpanzee playing it, cmon dude. It’s just, uh uh. No. Lost and lost! But it was fun.Sounds weird, but it was. Loving superheroes and all that stuff keeps me going. If I keep reading and reading, something has to stick eventually. Ugh! Exhausting. But fun. I think I said that already. That was my other self saying that from another parallel reality . Five stars if I understood it. 4 because I couldn’t, but SICK SICK art!

A new age classic
Bought this for my son who loves the DC comic graphic novels. He said it was great, not childish, a modern version of a great classic comic.

Scott Snyder came up with another banger storyline. Can't stress out enough on how much hype this story created and it lived well upto the hype and it sneakily opens new paths for future issues making you buy more comics for the story. Absolutely loved it, anyone who loves Batman and is not completely oblivious to the Justice League will love it. One small caveat, if you only rarely read comics, you will find yourself a bit lost, best option for it is to watch some videos on YouTube by Comicstorian or Variant to catch up

Exactly as promised, no complaints. Not thrilled it was sitting out on my step all day in the world of package theft we live in. But still really great and an amazing read for anyone interested in a wicked DC story arc.

(very tiny potential spoiler below.) Very original, off the wall, and bat-sh*t crazy! This is an "event" that constantly surprises and twists at almost every page. The similarities between MZ are horror, gore, crossovers (you pretty much get all the major DC heros) and universes, yet whereas MZ had better humour, DN:M feels just a slight bit more original. I have also read Dark Nights Rising and The Resistance, but this one is my favourite as it contains both start and conclusion and can be read on its own.
