My Fountain of Youth in a Box (Bonus: No asphyxiation!)
I’ve tried my fair share of box dyes over the years, but Garnier Nutrisse 40 Dark Brown (Dark Chocolate) has earned VIP status in my bathroom cabinet. It’s affordable, effective, and doesn’t make me feel like I’m dying in a cloud of fumes—so that’s a solid win to start with. Unlike other brands (ahem, Schwarzkopf), this one doesn’t try to strangle you with a chemical smell you can almost see. The scent is mild enough that I can breathe normally for the full 25-minute processing time without wondering if I’m losing brain cells. After rinsing, the scent is faint and pleasant—nothing to make your family avoid you for days. Let’s talk results. I’ve got long, fine hair and enough grey to outshine a well-lit Christmas tree. This dye covers every sparkle, leaves behind rich, dimensional color, and the dyed greys actually add soft, natural-looking highlights. It matches my natural (non-grey) shade almost perfectly—just enough refresh to make me feel like myself again, minus the shimmer. Application? Listen—I’m busy. I don’t section and paint and pray. I squeeze the thick cream directly onto my roots and massage it through like shampoo. It stays where I put it, doesn’t drip all over my face or sink, and gets the job done in record time. And now: the conditioner. Oh, the conditioner. I’d buy this stuff by the gallon if they sold it separately. It smells nice and leaves my hair feeling silky soft and tangle-free, which is a minor miracle. I stretch that tiny tube for at least two months—because nothing else detangles my hair without ripping it out strand by strand. One downside? The gloves. Like most box dyes, they’re clearly designed for people with giant hands and infinite patience. I gave up on them rather quickly and now just use my own gloves every time. Trust me—it’s worth it. I wash my hair about every other day, and I’ve never noticed fading before my roots grow out. The color holds beautifully between applications, which makes it all the more convenient. ⭐ Pros: Doesn’t smell like chemical warfare Excellent grey coverage with natural-looking highlights Thick, no-drip formula = fast and easy application Leaves hair silky soft (thank you, conditioner!) Long-lasting color without noticeable fading Affordable and reliably in stock ❌ Minor Con: Included gloves are glorified plastic sacks—bring your own. Final thoughts: This is hands down my fountain of youth in a box. If you want rich color, soft hair, and a scent that won’t knock you over, this one checks every box—just not the one the gloves came in.

I used this for over 10 years : )
I have been using this particular hair color and shade for well over a decade . I mix the # 80 (which was butternut blonde ) half and half with the light ash blonde (#110 ) color .My hair is a light golden blonde and looks very natural and even . I have no noticeable hair breakage any more and much fewer split ends —- I believe because my hair is in better shape ! It certainly looks and feels better than it has in 15 years . I can’t say enough how much more I like Garnier Nutrisse over soooooooooo many other colors ——of which some I used for over a year before giving up on them ) because these other hair colors left my hair dry and brittle with a lot of hair breakage ——- my hair never grew in length because it would break off near the ends ( or near the middle at the back of my head ) even though I used quality hair conditioners and hair masks .I try to only color my roots and I don’t ever spread the colorant to the rest of my hair . Because I always use the exact same color(s) , my hair has even color all over . I color my hair every 4 weeks . My hair had been long and touched the bottom of my bra at my back before I had it recently cut . And the colors that are marked “LB” lift a lot more color from the chocolate brown hair and then there is another color that lightens even dark brown hair ——I know because my friends use it .

Title: Covered My Grays Perfectly & Saved Me a Salon Trip
This hair color was exactly what I needed. My gray hairs were getting completely out of control, and it had been months since I’d been able to afford a professional salon visit. I decided to try this, and I’m so glad I did. It was easy to apply, didn’t feel harsh, and the color (50 Medium) matched my natural hair beautifully. My grays are fully covered, and my hair still feels soft and healthy, not dry or damaged. For the price, this is an amazing alternative to the salon. I’ll definitely be using this again. Highly recommend for anyone wanting great gray coverage at home. 💇♀️✨

Provides a Lovely Golden Blonde Color
I have been using this hair dye for at least 12-15 years! I get the golden blonde (90), and it does pull a little red because of the golden tones, but I love the honey blonde look. My hair always feels super soft after using the included conditioner and I always pack the extra conditioner in my suitcase because it's a nice deep treatment when all the hotels have is a light conditioner.

great price
Both boxes were supposed to be the same color. One was a lighter color than the other. That didn't bother me though. I had to use both boxes because my hair is long. Great price.

I'm a Nutrisse girl now
I have used L'Oreal hair color for many years, but it has gotten pricier, so I tried Garnier Nutrisse and really like it! The Truffle color is very pretty and multi-dimensional. Coverage is good and leaves hair soft and shiny. I'm now placing my third order for a 2-pack.

Great color and easy to use
I really loved this hair color. It was easy to use, didn’t make a huge mess, and the color came out really pretty and even. My hair felt soft afterward, and it covered very well. I’m very happy with the results and would definitely buy it again.

Worked as described. Color of hair turned out much darker than pictured on box though. I was expecting lighter brown but end result was nearly black.

I have only just used this product but I am really pleased with the easy way it applied. The colour is really close to my natural hair colour. I have always used the gloves to apply when I have had to colour 🧤 own hair

Great on black hair but less successful on brown tinged black hair. Left it on for 35 mins but needs longer!

Worked just as expected with box dye. Darkened my hair that had faded over time and left it soft. For people saying it didn’t colour their hair, this is box dye. You can’t expect salon results from 6 dollar drug store product. If you have dark hair don’t expect your hair to take to any of the colours on the box. If your trying to go from dark to light go to a beauty supply store for colour and toner
