So glad I found this on Amazon ! I have been having neck problems for several years, Osteooathic treatment isn’t sorting the problem, (no details !) so I often get tight muscles. In those muscles there is always a trigger point, this book does help to find it, and explains everything so well ! OK treating the trigger point, with pressure for around 10 seconds or so, is - YIKES ! (Leave to yr imagination !) painful. But the relief is unbelievable !!!! Well written, good diagrams. Trigger points are in every tight muscle I find, release them, heaven ! Go about yr day …… No drugs !

This book is great for anyone with chronic muscle pain or tightness. I have been able to release a lot of trigger points that frequently give me neck and upper back pain. The book contains many drawings and is well written for the average layperson. It contains so much information that I tend to read it in sections based on my need. The book breaks up different areas of the body and has drawings of pain patterns and then shows the trigger points causing that pain so you don't have to start out knowing the names of the muscles; you just choose the picture that matches your pain patterns and then flip to the corresponding page. It also goes into detail describing the functions of the muscles and possible causes of trigger points, but you can still use this book without reading all of it. This book taught me that the cause of the pain isn't always in the area you are feeling it. If you are interested in self-treatment, I highly recommend this book. I think every physical and massage therapist should have this in their library. Update: I had a day at work a few months ago when I was stretching my arms over head and bending sideways a bit (a typical morning yawn-and-stretch maneuver) and somehow something in my back suddenly seized. I could hardly move my back and had to walk like a robot for the rest of the day; no twisting whatsoever and very stiff. It felt as though a vertebra in my spine was pulled out of alignment. I tried using a heating pad at work for the rest of the day to relax muscles in my back, but I didn't get much relief and had a constant pinched feeling in my back. I thought I was going to need an emergency chiropractor appointment and perhaps also a professional massage asap, but it was the Friday of a long weekend and I didn't know if I'd be able to accomplish that. When I got home I consulted this book which confirmed that a tense muscle had indeed pulled a vertebra out of alignment, but also told me that if the muscle didn't relax, a chiropractic alignment would be undone by the muscle pulling it out of alignment again. With this book and my Theracane (recommended in the book), I was able to treat myself. I received a great deal of relief the first day, and by the end of the next day I was almost completely normal again (I added a hot water bottle for more muscle relaxation). The third day felt as if it hadn't happened aside from some tenderness where I had massaged. This book saved me the trouble and cost of arranging emergency treatment(s). That alone made the book worth it, and I have it to help me in the future as well.
