Solid option to automate your curtains
I bought these on a whim during Prime week. They arrived really quickly, as usual for Amazon and I started setting them up straight away. It's probably me, but I didn't realise that I needed two units, as my curtains open out from the centre to the sides. Whoops! Ordered another one and it also arrived quickly. Once I got over that minor hurdle, I started setup. I like that there's a choice between either a video setup guide or a set of images, so tried the video and it was straightforward and easy to follow - until I noticed that I was setting them up backwards - went back a few steps and rectified the problem. It looks much better set up correctly *behind* the curtains... Again, user error here :-) So now that they're installed, the calibration was quick - I adjusted the magnets a few times to get the curtains to close as much as possible. Looks like I'll still need to close them manually the last tiny bit at the bottom, but I really bought them for opening the curtains in the morning, to help me wake up more naturally, so this isn't a deal breaker. They work perfectly, and are intuitative to use. My curtains are heavy and it's strong enought to pull them without any issues. The units themselves are very solidly built, and grip the curtain pole really well. I've messed about with them quite a bit and the battery level hasn't budged - I also really like that they're USB C. I use plenty of Switchbot products, so am familiar with the app already, and I can fit them into other automated routines I have. I'm just waiting on my projector to arrive so I can have a mini movie night in bed, with the lights fading down, the curtains closing and the projector switching on! So far, I'm pretty happy with everything, and although they're not cheap, they feel like they're going to last a long time due to the build quality. Can recommend!

Simply brilliant!
I rarely leave reviews but had to for this one! This curtain puller/robot is honestly a brilliant device. I went and purchased the upgraded version and was surprised by how strong it is considering I have heavy curtains it pulls them with no problem at all. What really stood out to me is how quiet it is in Silent Mode, I set it to open my curtains in the morning and it does it so gently I barely notice. Setup was ridiculously easy too with the detachable arms that just snapped onto my curtain rod and I was done in under five minutes. I’ve also added it to my Google Home using the SwitchBot Hub, so now I can open and close my curtains just by using my voice, which is super convenient. It just works, and it works really well.

Excellent Build Quality with One Minor Physical Quirk
The first thing I noticed is the excellent build quality. Setup was a breeze, and I appreciated that it works easily with or without the alignment magnets. A standout feature is that the dedicated hub isn't mandatory; being able to use SwitchBot relays as a hub is a huge plus for flexibility. The only issue I encountered is that the bottom of the curtain tends to catch, preventing it from closing fully. It seems the curtain needs a bit of extra weight at the bottom to keep it aligned, though the top part moves perfectly without any issues.

The Real Deal 4/5 . however the best in market and easily accessible.
if you are looking for a curtain opener then look no further then switchbot . this company has it all. figured out. it will integrate via matters hub to apple HomeKit and samsung smart things or any other platform you have. this company is the jack of all trades in home automation tech. and yes they are winning at it. now you will say why didnt I give it 5/5 . well for the simple reason that this company thought the best in business isn't willing to put money in to silent motors in any of their stuff. its been ages since I reviewed their switchbot door lock vs Yale Linus l2. however their latest iteration the lock ultra still has that whining noise that wakes the dead from the crypt. this is also present in all their stuff. if they only for once actually use silent dc motors to control their stuff I guess this company will easily shoot up in the multi billion dollar club. until then this is remaining review the curtain opener as the other stuff they make has a silent mode which is a snails pace speed to rotate the motor at really low speeds to achieve near silence. that speed is usually useless unless you like responding like a sloth. for a normal person that speed isn't good or powerful enough to push through minor obstacles or rusty locks. now the review in the standard and full speed mode. the noise is considerable in both modes and any person sleeping will wake up in a silent bedroom. however this unit in a living room is 100% good as the noise there isn't going to be an issue. you can pull 1 curtain manually for 5cm and this will activate both curtains to open or close automatically depending on the direction you pulled the curtain. the unit is robust and can be recharged via a separate solar plate £20ish and give you infinite energy on this units. the curtain rods need to be cleaned properly before mounting these units and I have come to know that curtain rods with wooden dunelm rings are easier to operate then any other type of curtain rings. there are some clips inside the box that neatly arrange curtain plates and help the unit run smoother. there is an optional remote which is good for bedroom as I don't see the use in living room scenarios. you can connect multiple curtains to a single remote. remember the point where I said this company has everything figured out . well this is proof of that. so don't worry. if you are worried about will this unit do this or that or my scenario is unique. well don't worry and just buy the unit. it will do whatever you want such a unit to be able to do or at least is designed to do. the motor is powerful however only on the full speed setting. lower speed settings or more silent speed settings means lower power to push or pull curtains. I will definitely switch to this company once they switch to actually silent motors . till then I will wait . however the concept is really nice and I wished I didnt return my unit. however I wanted it for bedroom use and my bedroom has 3 layer blinds and 2 curtains to block any residual light . night duties . and the noise was too much for me . even if I did ignore the noise it couldn't cover 2 curtains and 1 blind to achieve complete darkness. I use magnetic clips to hold curtains flush along the wall so I bought mine for £62 or 67 on prime day in July so its excellent value for money. was 37% off at that time. would have bought it for £100 if it was actually powerful yet silent motor. the eco system is vast and compromise of very good and thought out stuff and in comparison to others in the market the stuff is excellent value for money. its just the motor noise in all their motor operated stuff. the silent mode doesn't cut it. please swithcbot if you are reading this then please for the love of god introduce actual good quality silent dc motors in your stuff. I will buy the door locks and window stuff and other home automation stuff . the integration is excellent via matters hub old or new. doesnt matter. edit. so I installed 2 of these units again. they are cheaper then most curtain accessories so why not. there has been an issue. the included plastic clips with metal chains to link curtain plates together have hurt my fingertips. to open and close those plastic tabs you need fingernail power and that power hurts if you need to attach and then detach to readjust those clips. I just wish for £100 the company would have included some springy metal clips which would have been far easier to use. to control this or any switchbot device in apple HomeKit or smart things you will need to buy their matters hub.

New model is even easier and quieter. Upgrade today!
I love these. I have the older model already but wanted to add some more so went for the new model this time, to see what improvements have been made. Fitting is even easier than it was last time with the rollers being connected rather than independent. Took me a few minutes to stick on the rail. The app is simple and effective. Literally turned them on, added devices. Said they were meet in the middle curtains and paired them in a few steps. This is like the hue of smart devices. I’ve got a pretty standard rail with rings on it but this thing (like the previous model) will fit a wide range of widths. Within a few minutes more I was asking Alexa to open and close the curtains. Integration and connectivity is absolutely brilliant and they don’t let me down. Battery life is also really impressive. They last me about a month. Maybe more. Let’s put it this way I don’t recall when I last charged them… I have to say that these are a little bit of an expensive habit (and the mrs thinks it’s the height of laziness) but I don’t care. Curtain automation may seem excessive but from a convenience perspective it works. All curtains close at sunset now - or at defined times - without having to actually go upstairs etc. As I said, I love them, they work well (very well) and the new model is even quieter than the old one - and that wasn’t exactly noisy.

Go to Device for Curtain Automation
Quality item, brilliantly packaged with everything needed to turn Ring Top, Grommet, Tab Top or Back Tab into smart curtains. Beads fixers are supplied for Grommet curtains, clips for Tab Top / Back Tab curtains. It is worthwhile to take time to look through the pictorial guide or watch the video. Many different options to control smart actions, from simply pulling curtain >5cm to activate action, Switchbot remote (not supplied), voice activation (hub needed) or app (hub needed). For my installation I have a grommet curtain, so I needed beads fixers (to aid opening and give a uniform look). Absolutely no problem with attaching them (maybe a bit stiff to open) or adjusting length of beads. Fixing the Main Unit and Hook (Rod) took 30 seconds. Fitted magnet and then just ran through calibration in the app. I can now control curtain open/close using Alexa (think Google Assistant can do %age, but I haven't tested). Through the app I have scheduled opening times, and using automation options curtain closes at sunset. In both cases you have the Motion Mode option of standard, Silent or QuietDrift. The QuietDrift is snail's pace, but virtually silent. In my setup I can still hear Silent Mode, but my curtain is quite heavy so the motor has to do more effort. Like all other Switchbot items I own, there was no problem adding curtain to app. Calibration was a breeze. The app has too many opinions for controlling curtains in this review, namely times, triggers, scenes etc, but most scenarios you could ever think of are catered for. I like the manual control of curtains, so other people who are not aware of the smart controls can still operate curtains. Maybe the solar panel might be a nice add on at a later date. Would be a great option for people with hard to reach curtains namely the ones behind sofas etc. Particularly like the fact that I can schedule opening and closing, so the house has the illusion of being occupied. This is a security feature that might be the reason you are thinking of fitting smart curtains in the first place. Of note, if you have a metal pole and metal grommet curtains that are hard to open/close manually anyway, you might want to consider fitting felt strips to the inside of grommets prior to turning them into smart curtains. I have done this throughout my house and the curtains now glide rather than tugging.

Rubbish - I must be an idiot
The magnets were never recognised despite trying to put them in the small gap between the grommet curtains and facing inside so there was very little space to manoeuvre the magnet into place - it just kept sliding around and wouldn't stick between the item itself would run over it. Tried installing without the magnets and opened and closed and all it did was descend fully across the other side of the curtain pole pushing the other curtains to make them even smaller and unclipped the clips between the holes. It might be because I had to take the pole down to try and install it because I was concerned that by the pulling the sides down to fit the middle bit in that I'd pull the rail out of the wall. All in all, it has been a disaster and I deeply regret my purchase. Everyone else has clearly made it look easy. I thought it was a cool idea especially when away on holiday but not worth the amount of aggravation involved and the cost of the product. I bought four to do my living room and bedroom and having to return all of them with two used and two untouched. Shame really, really liked the idea.

Much more resilient than predecessor
Still struggles with pulling Grommet curtains along the curtain rod but a definite upgrade from the initial Curtain rod 3 model. It stalls less often.
