1984 (Oberon Modern Plays)

Every bit as provocative and disturbing as an adaptation of George Orwell’s magnum opus ought to be. It’s relatively faithful to the book- keeping Winston’s narrative alive, while building on the themes to make it more contemporary. Audiences of the London premiere found it disorienting and graphic... and rightfully so! The plot can be hard to keep up with unless you’re somewhat familiar with the story. There are also a couple scenes that would be hard to watch, let alone stage. It would be a fun challenge for a director. Duncan Macmillan’s adaptation of 1984 left me chilled to the bone. I could not recommend more.

A must read for anyone who values their freedom from tyranny. The struggle between those who deceive to control and the people and the planet is real and will always be. The book is one of many wake up calls to what can happen and what has happened so often in the past. It’s just simply the nature of man!

It helps to have read to book before reading or seeing the play, to notice many of the subtle references to events in the book that the play doesn't have opportunity to fully develop.

This is an excellent stage adaptation of the novel. Much better than the film. A play within a play structure that manages to keep much of the novels language intact, defines the ideals of the novel and drives a story. I honestly was surprised how good of an adaptation the play turned out to be.

This is a FRAUD. When I searched for 1984 to purchase the book for my Kindle it came up as one of the top search results. *I* thought "Oberon" was the publisher or something. Just look at the other reviews. LOOK how many people are buying THIS instead of the book they wanted! Amazon needs to FIX this listing so it's clearer this is NOT THE BOOK. Fix it.

A great book, with scary parallels as to what’s happening in today modern world. Should be on every high school students Reading list.

I accidentally ordered the e-version of this book, and don't have an e-reader. :( Hopefully, someone in my family can access it!

Timely and scary, this play was terrific. A real page turner. I would definitely want to check out this play should it ever be performed anywhere remotely close to where I live.

This is an play, not the original novel written by Orwell himself. Should not say George Orwell and with 2 others ... It should just say the 2 authors first then "with George Orwell". I realize the characters are his intellectual property, but be accurate with who actually wrote it.

Uma adaptação incrível que faz uma leitura muito interessante do romance de Orwell! Acho importante ler o romance original (com o apêndice!) antes de ler essa adaptação. Recomendo!

Bought in error as I was looking to buy the actual book. I'd foolishly misread the product information. However the item itself is of a really good quality. Good paper, clearly lettering, strong backing. If this has been what I'd meant to order then I'd have been delighted with this purchase. Either way this is still a good team from a good supplier.
