The Perfect Grasshopper
There's been a resurgence of interest in cocktails using creme de cacao in the U.S thanks to a modern brand of the spirit available there called Tempus Fugit. Unfortunately it's not easily available in the UK. Happily for us, Briottet liqueurs are. This is my third bottle after their creme de banane and creme de violette variants. I trust them solidly. The balance of flavours is just right. In a quietly perfect way they always achieve a just-right balance of flavour to spirit to sugar. Putting it bluntly, Briottet make liqueurs for quality cocktails. For shots save your bucks and buy De Kuyper. If you've ever had raw cacao beans you'll recognise this for what it is - roasted cacao beans macerated in neutral spirit with sugar added to turn it into a liqueur. Don't expect it to taste like liquid milk chocolate. That flavour is there but there's a whole other cacao bean dimension too. If you're after the perfect Grasshopper, you've found your holy grail.

Reliable flavour and great brand
I love the Briottet brand. There is something wonderful and clean in the simple and understated design of the bottles and labels, plus the helpful poring control cap. As for the flavour of this creme, I find it just slightly too sweet so I adjust the recipe of the cocktail requiring it and use just slightly less.

For modern cocktails
Excellent for use in cocktails - whereas a brown coloured creme de cacao would give the drink the appearance of muddy water, this keeps the colour of your other ingredients. The flavour is refined, not overly chocolatey or sweet. Try a Kentucky River, which is just rye, this product, plus some peach bitters. Lovely.

White Creme de cacao
Very subtle spice and chocolate flavour, more grown up than the branded chocolate spirits you see in the supermarkets. Perfect for brandy Alexanders

Not much chocolate flavour
Pretty disappointed by the Creme de Cacao. I am a big fan of other Briottet Liqueurs. For instance, having tried many others, I now always use the Creme de Violettes for making my Aviations. Briottet tend to use good quality ingredients and are without the nasties that others use, such as artificial colourings and flavours. But this one just doesn't deliver at all. I normally use Bols, which gives an intense (slightly milk-) chocolately flavour and really hits you with a big chocolatey aroma. This one is so subtle as to be almost undetectable, especially if you are using it for a Grasshopper, where it gets lost under the Creme de Menthe. Honestly don't know how I am going to use it up - I feel like I have just bought some very overpriced sugar syrup. Back to Bols for this one!
