Excellent pullup bar. Solid and reliable. - Update at end of review
I got this 2 1/2 months ago, and I have used it daily since then. I have gone from just 10 pull ups a day (in multiple sets) to more than 50 pull ups a day. Here are my impressions of this bar: - Very easy to assemble. All that is needed is included in the package, and it only takes a few minutes to mount the bar. - The bar is solid and reliable. I was a little leery to hang my weight from a door frame, but I have not had any problems. I suppose that as long as your door frame is solid you shouldn't have any problem either. There is a retention clip that is used as a sort of security measure, by the way. All in all, I have full confidence in this bar now. - It seems very well built, and I think it will stand the test of time. - Versatility: You can use this bar to do pull ups (palms facing away,) chin ups (palms facing towards you,) and neutral grip pull ups (palms facing each other.) Not all bars have handles that allow you to do neutral grip pull ups, and this is definitely a plus, since when doing pull ups variety is important (it will allow you to engage different muscle fibers in your back.) I really have not used this bar for push ups or sit ups, but alone on its merits as a pull up bar, it deserves the highest rating. UPDATE: After 4 months, the foam on the grip areas started peeling off and eventually breaking away. Maybe it's because I use exercise gloves when doing pull ups, but I think the construction in the grip area should be better. This is not diminishing my ability to do pull ups however, and given the overall quality of the bar, I still maintain my original review rating. But consider what I mentioned about the foam falling appart when you buy this product, and whether that might be an issue for you.

Just about perfect so far.
Just what I needed. And the price that I paid on Amazon was actually more affordable than Walmart and a couple of dollars less than it is now. So I guess I ordered mine at the right time, a time where Amazon was feeling a little generous I guess. I've only had this item for like 40 mins, and I had a good feeling about it from the start. Assembly was pretty simple(took about 10-12 mins), and all parts were there except for the ab straps which I don't really need anyway; because with this I can easily improvise. It fits nicely above the closet doorway which is about 2.5 ft wide or about 2ft. 7in., and it holds my weight very well; I'm 180. I still have yet to try it out on a wider door frame, but I'm sure that it will fit above the other doors as well. A very nice tool for fitness enthusiasts and a great way to build strength and muscle when the dumb bell set just isn't enough anymore. A very nice and affordable gift for someone who likes to workout a lot. I've been wanting a chin up bar for a long time, and now I finally have one and I love it. It's so easy to use, another plus. Iron Gym is my new best friend. Highly recommended. Money well spent, what more can I say? ***UPDATE*** After trying this product on 3 different doorways, it works on all 3 and each are different widths. However, I did notice how it will leave small indentations in the side molding of the door frame and sometimes black scuff marks on the paint. The foam grips and padding seem like they might last for a couple of months, but I do intend to improvise when they wear out. I'm about to place a thin piece of padding in between the frame of the door to prevent more serious damage, because I do believe with heavy usage the Iron Gym will do further and more noticeable damage to the door frame. Thinking about my weight, the natural effects of wear and tear and my passion for working out; I'm going to have to take certain measures to ensure that I do not cause serious structural damage to the door frame. This will probably do damage even quicker with heavier people, so keep an eye on the condition of your door frame after every workout. Other than that, it's still a great product that I intend to use every day.

Great workout tool, but even better for high energy kids
This is a great product. It's been used for about 5 months, with no visible wear to the grips or the door trim. No installation involved! It is very sturdy - suitable for adults and children. We only use it hung up in a doorway, though it is also designed to be used for floor exercises. It's used many times every single day, by my son who gets sudden bursts of energy and needs a quick, convenient outlet for them. Lacking arm strength, he typically does flips, rather than pull ups, but it still depletes his energy (and strengthens his core) so it's a WINNER! The door will not shut while this is hanging in the doorway, but that is easily rectified by lifting the pullup bar up to remove it. There is a safety clip that gets inserted into the trim that runs along the top of the doorway, but this clip in no way contributes to the strength of the bar when it is in use, or the stability of the bar when it is not in use (as long as it isn't bumped). It is merely used to make sure that when the bar is removed, it is not removed by rocking the bar backwards, because that would cause it to fall on you if not for the presence of the little clip. It may look flimsy, but it is more than enough to get the job done, and I love how it does not need to be hammered or screwed or in any other way installed into the door frame. It simply slides in and out. Take it out when you take the bar down, because it will fall out without the bar to keep it in place. To remove the bar from its position in the doorway, you simply stand on the side of the doorway where the safety clip is installed and lift the bar straight up and over the clip. Already supporting the weight of the bar, there is no danger of it falling on you!

It works, but...
Definitely listen to the person that said to measure the doorframe, but you will want to measure the OUTSIDE of the frame as well. If I attempt to use this in a couple of rooms in my semi-narrow hallway, it is too wide. My hallway is somewhat narrow (the house was built in '60's) and goes just outside a 2" doorframe. Fortunately, I have other places to use it where it fits fine. Assembly wasn't too difficult for me since I'm good at figuring things like that out, but there are no real formal directions for assembly. Only a diagram that tells you to assemble according to the diagram. I could easily see someone having a little difficulty if do-it-yourself isn't your forte. It does feel pretty secure and sturdy. However, doing abdominal pull ups, you should spring for the arm devices you can send away for, for an additional $8 S&H. Though they are advertised as "free", whatever. Without them, it is pretty hard on your hands to do that exercise and most women can probably forget it unless you buy them or find something else to use as the same function. A word of fitness caution: you may find that you actually need some work prior to doing chin ups. This has absolutely nothing to do with the manufacture or function of this item. It functions as promised, but if you have no other way to test if you even CAN do everything you are supposed to with this, there is a good chance you can't and while it can be used for sit-ups or push ups as promised, I'll bet you can do those without this equipment. So in short, it isn't for everyone and unless you have other work out methods, chances are this isn't worth the expenditure and will end up collecting dust. If you already know your limitations, work out regularly and are simply looking for an inexpensive, convenient way to bring some bits of the gym home with you, go for it. Well worth it in that case. If you are buying because you convinced yourself that once you buy this, all those pounds will disappear you'll be "ripped" per the advertising, do the simple inexpensive things at home or join a gym first to see what works for you and if you would even use it. I work out regularly with a treadmill and a bow flex and I think this is probably going to collect more dust than it is worth for me. My arms are not so large (nor do I want them to be) as to really be capable of doing chin ups, or at least not for a long while yet. It isn't worth the expense strictly for the push ups and sit ups, and I have to buy the extras to do pull ups.

Sturdy - The Materials, and the Fact That It Stays In Place
Really Solid Quality for This Price Range I found the set-up process to be very easy - took me maybe 10 minutes tops. All the necessary pieces were included, and while the instructions weren't super detailed, it still gave a pretty clear idea of how to put it together. (I had seen other reviews saying theirs didn't include the little wrench - mine did, but I'm confident you can put the bars together even without it as long as you have a crescent wrench or even a pair of pliers). I had measured my doorway prior to purchase, so it fit fine. Only hangup is that it comes with a little additional metal part that's supposed to help anchor it to the doorway for extra security - near as I can tell, you drive the spiked end down into the doorway itself? (Pic attached). Not sure if that would cause any damage, but the doorframe I put this on is solid metal, so I just didn't use that part, as it seemed additional rather than mandatory. Even without that extra bit, the bars seem extremely secure. They don't move at all, even if I swing a little bit while excercising. For reference, I am about 115 pounds. I've seen no damage to my doorframe (although as I said earlier, it's metal). I also haven't had any issues with the foam grips deteriorating or spinning despite having bought this a couple months ago. All in all, I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

Get a Multi-function Gym For The Price of a Dumbell! UPDATED REVIEW
I wasn't so sure about this thing. It was easy to assemble. I put it together in about 8-10 minutes. Yet, it seemed flimsy and I was afraid of damage to the doorframe (I live in an apartment). However, it really works as advertised. The way this thing is designed distributes the weight into the sides of the doorframe so your bodyweight is pushing in on the frame and not hanging dead weight. It is really a clever design. It installs in seconds and leaves no damage. It's light weight and compact so there isn't any worry about storage. The push-up function ensures good form because of the hand placement. It allows you to do deep push-ups, and gives you a wider range of motion than simply using a flat surface. You can do wide push-ups as well. It works fairly well for sit-ups too. Yet, I found myself having to stop a couple times to set the bar back even with the floor. Yet, it works better than sticking my feet under the couch (What I did before I got this). The wide pull up function works just fine. I wasn't sure if the hand placement would be sufficient but I could feel the burn after a few reps. The only drawback is the dip function. It doesn't really do anything for you. You really can't get a full range of motion with the device placed on the floor. The workout guide recommends elevating the feet with a stool but it doesn't increase the range of motion in your triceps. You need to elevate the Iron Gym in addition to your feet in order to do dips properly. However, using the device in this manner can be potentially dangerous and result in injury should the device shift position in mid-dip. I don't recommend doing it. There are safer options to doing dips. I was able to do hanging crunches without the ab straps, but I will probably go ahead and get them just because they are only eight bucks with shipping and handling. Overall, I'm satisfied with this purchase. You get a multifuncitoning piece of exercise equipment for the price of a dumbbell. You can't go wrong with this. It works, and you can get a great workout on this thing. I've incorporated it into my warm-up routine. I will still use free weights, but this is a wonderful item. I can see this as a great travel item too. If you go on vacation you can turn any motel doorframe into a gym. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3 month update - My weight when I first began using the Iron Gym was 145 lbs. I was working out 3 times a week with dumb bells and doing push-ups. After getting the IRON GYM I incorporated the device into my routine. As of today I have gained 17 lbs. of muscle mass putting my weight at 162 lbs. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7 Month Update - I have still been using IRON GYM three days a week in addition to my dumbells and jump rope. My weight is now at 171. I've noticed the padded material that makes contact with the doorframe is beginning to wear. I may need to start putting ducktape on the ends of the device. There is also some slight wearing of the paint above my doorframe. I'm going to have to have some touch up work done.

Brilliant Solution and a Great Product
Let me say first that this is a great product just for the fact that it solves the problem of getting a pull-up bar in your home. For a long time the only place I could get access to a pull-up bar was the gym. This product lets me get a portion of my workout done at home, making my life a little easier. This product is easily assembled within 20 min (usually less) of opening the package. All the necessary tools you will need are included inside of the package, eliminating the need to find or borrow tools to put this together. The construction of the iron gym itself after assembly is very solid, and it feels like it should - ready to handle all of my body weight. The only negative about the construction is how the pull-up bar itself is assembled. Instead of attaching the two pieces of the bar with a screw or some sort of fastener, the two pieces are fitted together and then rotated to lock. When assembling the product, this made me uneasy about how the final product would perform, but the assembled pull-up bar works great. After assembling the product and using it for about two weeks strait, I can say that this product is great for anyone looking to be able to work out in the comfort of their own home. The product does what it is intended to do with great results. No marks have been made by the product on any of the doorways I have used it on, and stores easily under my bed after use. Definitely a great buy - I am even considering order the ab strap add-on's to increase the amount of exercises this product covers.

Will not work with all doorways
This pull-up bar does work, and works well, as long as you have the proper doorway. I can remember seeing the infomercials for this item, and they state it will work with any doorway. This isn't true. Set up: Measure your trim/moulding and door jam BEFORE ordering. This is the only way to ensure you'll be able to make use of this pull up bar. You have to make sure you have thinner moulding/trim above your doorway. Ours is only a little over 2" wide, so fortunately we are able to make use of this bar. It will not work, as others have stated, with the wider moulding/trim. This won't work on a doorway without trim either. The bar actually braces on top of the trim. I'd also HIGHLY recommend using the safety latch. It just slides down behind the trim to ensure the bar will not slip off of the trim. The other thing that others have noted, is the thickness of your actual door jam. It must be between ~5.5-6.5" thick. Lastly, make sure you have adequate room for the length of the bar. It won't work on most doorways that are located in the corner of a room. The bar may be too long to sit properly on the door jam. I'm only able to use this on one door in my entire house because of this. Assembly: It does work great. I can't commment on the 300 lb weight limit, as I'm only 140, but it holds me no problem. Also make sure to just use the provided "wrench" to assemble. This will ensure you don't over torque any of the bolts. Assembly is only 4 bolts with lock washers and nuts. It takes longer to unpackage the thing than to put it together. It seems very sturdy for the light weight metal which is used. The hand grips are okay, but I can see them wearing out eventually. I haven't used this for sit ups or dips, so I can't comment on how well it works for those uses. UPDATE: My buddy was using this, and ordered one of his own. He's about 230-240 I think, and it holds him no problem. I know still a long way off from the claimed 300 lb rating, but it will work for the majority of people out there.
