A Ten-Cent Resistor Can Save You Thousands
I installed this generic "VCM Muzzler" harness on my 2013 Acura RDX to replaced my failed "intelligent" S-VCM device that had worked fine for 6 years. The connectors are not the best quality but they do work. Just make sure you tug to ensure they are fully seated. I set the dip switch to 82 ohms and verified the resistance with a multimeter (across the black wires). I secured the device with a nylon tie to make sure it wasn't resting on the motor). My test drive confirmed it is operational and the temp gauge needle is 1/2 needle-width below the mid-point on the temp gauge (the same position as the previous S-VCM when it was working). I like that it came with extra resistors, so if the internal resistor fails I can replace it. Out of curiosity I looked up the cost of the one-watt resistors that this device uses. They cost 10 cents. So far, this $9 passive VCM override device replaces my previous active "S-VCM" that cost over $100 and is effectively disabling VCM (and avoiding the attendant issues). If it fails I will follow up.

Easy to install! Works as intended!
Have installed this on two different vehicle with complete success. 2015 Odyssey and 2015 Pilot. The wire connectors seem good quality with a satisfying click when installed. Installation took minutes with basic tools. Infuriating story on the Odyssey, which belongs to a nephew and his wife. They have three kids. First occurrence of misfires and limp modes occurred while they were on family vacation some 15 hours away. Shop replaced the typical plugs and coil packs and charged a couple thousand dollars. Same symptoms returned some months later. Their local mechanic repeated the same “repair” as previous mechanic along with a couple more thousand dollars down the drain. Some months later, same issue: misfires and limp mode. Then they told me about it. I immediately suggested installing this muzzler. They agreed - why wouldn’t you for such little money? Installed muzzler along with 3 of 6 spark plugs. Two long road trips later, they have had zero repeat issues!

Use a different part. Not this.
I can’t recommend this. It does indeed trick your engine into thinking the coolant temp is lower than it is, thereby disabling Vcm. However my experience is that this also prevented the evap system from functioning correctly, and now i believe i must replace my evap canister due to it being flooded. I’ve been experiencing rough starts or no starts for a month, even after removing the part. No shade to the manufacturer or seller - the part seems well constructed. But this approach doesn’t account for other necessary systems in the vehicle. The car also started throwing a bunch of other, seemingly unrelated, check engine codes. This is after i adjusted the resistance per the recommended instructions on the sales page. Recommend to find a different solution to disable vcm.

A real review from a real person
I see some reviews saying it was bad, I noticed that some come with the red/black wire switched. That is definitely the problem if yours is not working. Either get a replacement or switch it yourself. Mine works great at 86. I still get the occasional eco light to come on but the majority of the time it works and my plugs/oil look a lot better when I look/change them. I’m going to try the other settings and see if I can permanently get the ECO light off. But so far so good. It’s been about a year with it, but no CELs or any issues. Gas mileage goes down a tiny bit but it’s worth it, rather than replacing plugs, oil, or even an engine for that matter. Make sure the wires are assembled correctly, and find your settings because it won’t be the same for everyone. Different car, different climate zones. Very cheap to try out, easy to install. These muzzles shouldn’t even be that expensive like the other ones out there.

Worked fine on Odyssey 2015 EX-L in Florida
Easy to install, works perfectly in Florida winter at 82 resistance. No eco light, VCM disabled. Remains to be seen if I have to adjust the resistance during the hot florida summer.

Works great
So far so good, got rid of my check in light.

Solved intermittent misfire code
Our 2011 Odyssey (0ver 200k miles) with ECO/VCM developed an intermittent misfire code. During the check engine light for the misfire, ECO/VCM would not engage and after running on all 6 cylinders for a while, the misfire code would go away and ECO/VCM would return. With the muzzler installed at 82 olms, all 6 cylinders are in use all the time and no more misifre. The 2011 only has the ECO mode. It does not have the ECON mode. I have not used this on my vehicle that has ECON mode. If it gets too hot, the ECO could still come on, but I would not mind that as an exception, so I will not likely move it from 82 olms.

Great value, works as promised
Easy to install, though it did not come with instructions. Just look up a video online, you simply set the resistance that you want, install the cover on the resistor box, unplug your coolant temperature sensor, plug that connector into one end of this device and plug the other end of this device into your sensor. It took less than 5 minutes on my Odyssey. I saw a couple other reviews say this doesn't work because it's wired wrong. Either those reviewers just happened to get a defective one or something, because it worked perfectly for me. Took it on a 2 hour trip right after installation and the ECO light in my van did not come on at all, and the van ran perfectly. For under $20, the ease of installation and piece of mind to know that it will prevent the VCM system from damaging my engine makes this a no-brainer. That it comes with extra resistors in case you need to replace one is a bonus.

Works as expected in colder months but in the summer months my ECO light does come on. I guess I could set it to a colder setting. Works as intended overall.

Felt better throttle response right away. No more hesitation from the vcm. New design is plug and play. I have a 10’ honda ridgeline. Highly recommend.
