While I've only used this once it performed very well, certainly meeting my expectations. I've dethatched lawns using gas machines and by hand. This is now my preferred method. A 1-day rental for a gas unit costs around $80 in this area plus tax & fees. Then there's the effort of picking it up and dropping it off. 2 rentals would pay for this machine. The upside to a gas unit is you're not tethered to a cord. While a cord is a little annoying it’s not a big issue. Gas units are certainly more powerful but not typically needed for most residential lawns. Doing it by hand is a LOT of hard work, so… Finding assembly instructions was the only downside, but I was able to find an online video from a previous customer that helped. Basically, start with the large U-shaped bar and attach to the base where the 2 long pre-attached bolts protrude. You’ll have to stretch it a little to get on the 2nd side but it’s not hard. Then add a small round black disk with the 2 parallel lines on the bar side. Finish with the green lockdown piece, screwing it in to the point where pushing it close to the bar locks it in place. Then add the 2 individual middle bar sections. Both ends are the same so orientation doesn’t matter. Push a bolt from the inside to the outside followed with the small round black disk and green lockdown. Then attach the handle section. There are 2 small round black pieces with an open side that are used to secure the wire in 2 different places to the bars. There’s another handle like piece with 2 screws that appear to be used to wall hang the unit that can be attached to the base – though that’s just a guess as I didn’t attach it. When I first opened the box, I thought it was missing 2 bolts. I saw 6 green lockdown pieces and mistakenly assumed there needed to be 6 bolts. Fortunately, the other bolts are already pre-attached to the base. While it might take a day, unlike many other similar type companies, this company absolutely does respond to emails. That to me is a big plus when you have questions or need replacement parts. For anyone who hasn’t used a dethatcher before, you might be concerned with what looks like a lot of live grass being lifted. This is normal and would occur even if you were to hand rake. This dethatcher however pulls up quite a bit more dead grass and thatch. We had a hard winter this year which caused lots of dead matted grass on top. So along with removing ground thatch this machine was easily able to rake through all of that and more will better allow for new grass growth. The unit is light weight and in my opinion, preferable to a heaver metal machine. Though a metal machine may be sturdier and not be a prone to cracking t some point in the future, it’s lots easier to maneuver and store. I looked at several other electric units. This unit was 15 amps as opposed to 12 and 16 inches wide as opposed to 12 or 14. The little extra costs is well worth it for power when needed and longevity of the electric motor. Though I had extension cords, at their recommendation I did end up buying a 100’ 12-gauge extension cord which cost me another $50, but it something I can use for many other projects.

OVERALL - Solid working product that doesn't quit. I have a large lawn, and pretty much powered through it. PROS - Little assembly required. Comes with a wall hanging bracket but instructions dont say how to use it (not difficult) - Quiet operation, appreciate little detail like cable hanger brace on left side - Easy to swap 2 attachments - Decent looking and easy to clean - Easy to change settings to different depths - Really good looking - love the color. - Not heavy - actually quite lightweight for its purpose - Wider than others (still too narrow for my lawn but thats my problem) CONS - Collection bag doesn't work and just GARBAGE - doesn't collect barely anything. Had to pretend I didnt have one and just collect everything after. very disappointed - was this even tested. Bag "fills up" 25% then nothing else goes in. Bad design. - Instructions not great but at least English is proper. - Some parts came in box loose - wasn't sure if I was missing something.

UPDATE 4/17/25: After my last review on the dethatcher unit, TIECTOWN's customer support reached out and offered to make things right with offering either a full refund or a new unit. I opted for the new unit since this thing has serious potential for the everyday homeowner, and I could definitely see myself needing to use this dethatcher in the coming Springs to green up my lawn (already seeing definite improvement since the time of my last posting). The new unit TIECTOWN sent has absolutely no power problems and starts and goes like a dream. Due to this and TIECTOWN's prompt customer response, I'm updating my review to five-stars. Looking forward to using this unit in the years to come! 3/31/2025: Does this thing work? Absolutely. Did it completely dethatch my neglected yard beautifully? Definitely. Did it go without any issues? Not so much. I preface this with the possibility the issue being isolated to just my individual unit, but I found that the safety/ON button had to be pressed in even AFTER holding the engaging lever back or else it wouldn't start up. My yard is reasonably flat, meaning all four wheels were on the ground, so I first thought the safety mechanisms were being a bit particular about that in causing the machine to not turn on at all. But no. I have a feeling that something is loose in the power unit that becomes dislodged by the vibrations of the machine when it actually goes cause when I tell you that this machine needed so much babying just to complete a single run.... Maybe it's my unit, maybe its not. Just a warning if you encounter the same problem. Other points - this machine was wonderfully boxed together, no missing pieces, and was easy to put together once common sense is combined with the instruction manual (the close up pictures in the instructions are a bit hard to make out but the actual parts lend themselves to where they need to go). I had the thing put together in about 15 minutes and was able to get immediately started - starting on the lowest setting for test sections on the yard before really getting the hang of it. The amount of dead grass this machine pulled up was absolutely astonishing, leaving nothing but the healthy, growing grass behind. I had tons of dead zoysia grass that needed to go, and now my yard looks so much more alive and green which is why I'm giving this thing 3 stars. It did it's job, but not without making me work for it.

It only took me about 10 minutes to unpackage and assemble this dethatcher. It was very easy to assemble and included a step-by-step guide with images. I was excited to try it out and put it into action right away. I attached the dethaching rotor and set the deck height to one. It is really easy to change the deck height or in other words to change how deep the detacher or the other rotor dig in. It is also really easy to swap out the rotor, there is one screw. I lived in my home for many years and have never dethached my lawn. I took one walk down the yard as you see in the video about 20 ft and so much old grass came out that the bag filled up to about 1/4. It works very well and efficiently. The motor seems very powerful, I didn't notice any type of hesitation. The grass bag is easy to detach and reattach, it basically drops in and there's a spring loaded cover that holds it down. The machine is nice and wide yet it folds up very compact and even comes with a wall mount. This machine is very durable and I think it will last me forever. It's a great value and I can certainly recommend it.
