The older pump I had been using (which was never anything special to begin with) developed some issues so I was looking for something cheap that would arrive quickly via Amazon Prime. Let's start with the Pros: - This thing is incredibly quiet. The loudest thing associated with my aquarium is now the air pump. You could potentially have this in a bedroom it's that quiet. - I like that it has a UV light. Will that have any discernible effect? Time will tell. - Seems to do the job. I transferred the biological media from my old pump and my water chemistry is perfect. The water is very clear. - Cheap. Cons: - Cheap. Everything here just feels flimsy and delicate. I'll be pleasantly surprised to get a lot of time out of this pump. I have now learned enough about aquarium-keeping to realize that I'd be best off making the investment into a serious piece of equipment once this goes pear shaped. - The particulate filters aren't just rectangles. When I want to replace them I'll have to do some creative cutting. Not a huge deal but figured I'd mention it. All in all, the pump is doing what I have asked it to do on the terms I wanted. I'm not going to simultaneously credit it for being affordable and fault it for being made of cheap materials. You have to pay for quality. If I were paying for quality and got this I'd be upset.

Works great once you get it the siphon to work. We spent 3 or 4 hours trying to get it to work finally called the Amazon help line and determined it was defective. The gentleman we talked to was very polite and talked us thru a few things before he told us to send it back and they would send another one. So jump ahead 2 days trying to set this one up similar problem, but figured out if you tip it to the side just a little it kicks in and got all of the air out. Now it is working great. It's been 2 days so I will add more if needed down the line. Note this is the first time I've had this kind of filter so by no stretch of the imagination am I a professional!

Easy to use, does great on our 55 gallon with goldfish. Water is crystal clear

I received a defective one. Leaks from the head where the handles are at. Not a gasket issue. Others had same problem. It was quiet and does the job so I’m sad I had to return it since no customer service. Thinner plastic but that’s why it is cheaper than name brands.

So far so good. Was a little difficult getting it started. Made a horrible noise in the beginning but after some trial and error, got it to work with almost no sound. Pros: Love the water movement. Hose was long enough and easy to trim to right length. Small to fit in corner and out of the way. Cons: a pain in the rear to clean. Impossible to clean hoses, so will need to purchase more hoses from local store to replace current ones. Have to disconnect and move the entire thing to tub just to clean otherwise water goes everywhere. So far, haven't seen how it filters anything other than moving water around. Will keep using for now but probably more of a hassle to keep just from the cleaning aspect.
