With ten per cent sugar, this is rather sweet, but mainly, at 90 per cent mango, it is very fruity. It is eminently suitable for mixed drinks (and the taste difficult to overpower), but just as useful in or on any culinary delight for which a shot or dribble of mango puree is appropriate. If adding to a cocktail, vodka or gin – not having powerful flavours of their own – would be the most appropriate sources of alcohol. Putting this to the test, though, and not wanting to drink too much alcohol with it, I have found that it makes a pleasantly refreshing drink stirred into neat Indian Tonic Water. With or without alcohol, the addition of ice is good, plus a slice or two of cucumber – or whatever you fancy for visual effect. Whatever you add (within reason), in terms of taste it is certain to be ‘Mango rules’.

This mango smoothie looks like egg yolks. It's very yellow, very thick, and crucially, also very tasty. Makes a great mango smoothie in the morning, and also goes well with a dash of vodka in the evening.
