They come with a drainage hole predrilled and this seems to be enough for them to drain. They are very lightweight so can easily be moved about the patio. I don't think they would be suitable for tall leafy plants as I think the wind would blow them over easily. When planting them up I was a little concerned because they were so light and flexible, but they are performing well so far. My only niggle is that their smooth sides allow slugs easy access to plants so I have had to invest in slug repellant tape and wool pellets. Overall though, I am very happy with my purchase. Review: Perfect size for the patio - Ideal size for patio plants. Very light but solid. Good colour, will show off plants well. I am switching from heavy terracotta pots to these now!
