Harper Collins India The Wellness Sense: A Practical Guide to Your Physical and Emotional Health Based on Ayurvedic and Yogic Wisdom : Om Swami: desertcart.in: Books Review: One of the best books to attain overall good health through practical ayurveda - We keep thinking about our physical health, our mental health is slowly becoming our priority (hopefully) but do we even consider our stomach as the most important organ of our body? (After our heart and the brain). This book tells us how our stomach controls almost everything and how an eating sense can give us a wellness sense. The Wellness Sense gives us an Ayurvedic perspective towards our wellness and health. It tells us how food plays a great role in every aspect of our lives, also how our emotional and mental health is extremely important for our physical wellbeing. It has explained everything in utter detail. A number of appendices have been given at the end of the book to give us a small list of what kind of food is the best for us. The title of the book is as witty as the last book I had read by Om Swami. The book describes what the wellness sense and other aspects of the same are. The cover is a beautiful mix of shiny and subtle that gives off the right calm yet catchy vibe. The language of the book is simple to read. Though a lot of Sanskrit words have been used due to the Ayurvedic outlook it has been explained very well. All aspects have been described well. The content of the book is a guide in a nutshell. I was amazed to see so many things being described so well. No useless examples, no self-praising and filled with knowledge. The Ayurveda has been backed up by modern science and this makes the book very different from the other typical wellness books. In the end, I would love to say that I, personally, have got an idea of how my body works. I now know what can be considered to eat and what I can skip on. I loved the part where the author has not prohibited anything. He teaches us about our body and leaves us with many choices. I recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with their health or wants to know more about their body for better functioning. Insightful for anyone looking to live a healthier life
I had been wanting to read a book on Ayurveda for a while when this one came out. How happy was I to lay my hands on it because I am a huge admirer of Swami's writing style and the lessons he shares through his books. While modern science and medicine is great, there's much it leaves to be desired when it comes to treating people and diseases they suffer from. Like Swami says in this book, modern science treats the cause and not the symptom. Ayurveda adapts a different approach to treating people and it is enlightening to read the why and how of it. This book is immensely insightful and has plenty one can take away to lead a healthier and more aware life. It helps you understand your own body better and if you want also aids you to practice 'precaution is better than cure'. As is always the case, the book is written in a manner that is easy to understand for the reader and the different sections in the book do a great job of segregating Ayurveda into parts that are easy to absorb. For anyone interested in knowing more about Ayurveda or simply understanding how ancient Indian medicine worked and treated people or even if you're someone looking to live a healthier life overall, this is a useful book. Definitely a good read!

To say that I loved this book would be an understatement
To say that I loved this book would be an understatement. Ancient Yogic and Ayurveda practices were a jumble of concepts for me with no real connection between one and the other. Many of my beliefs were even factually incorrect if not completely wrong. This one book clarified all the concepts and made me realize what a genius our Rishis were. Nothing about what you read is religious mumbo jumbo it's pure science and logic so clearly and beautifully spelled out that you wonder if modern medicine is so accurate at all. I was in awe of the book for a few days thinking again and again about how I can imbibe all the practices given in the book, change my lifestyle as much as I can for the the simple and clear goal to live a 100 years with happiness and without disease. A curious incident happened which I must narrate here.. One friend wanted to come up with a health app, the kids which are very popular these days. I would measure your daily exercise, calories burnt, offer prompts to be more active, tell you about various diets and weight loss regimes and so on. He wanted to discuss the final concept with me. We met up for lunch and I started telling him about Wellness Sense and how our entire idea of "being healthy" is flawed. To be truly healthy one must not only be fit physically but be mentally strong and personally radiant. He should not only be truly happy himself but should be able to make others happy. I went on and on about all that was written in the book Rajas, Tamas, Satva Kapha Pitta Vata, the practice of Yoga, relationship between body and mind, holistic health etc. So much so that my friend just dropped the idea of the App and said first I want to read this book. I will come up with a new app based on the book :-) This book is really a gem and can be gifted to friends and family not as something they will just decorate on their bookshelf but as a living guiding entity.

I liked this book so much that i'm writing my first Amazon review just to encourage everyone to pick it up. The Wellness Sense a holistic book about achieving perfect mental and physical health, and Om Swami did a great job at explaining difficult topics in simple, straight-forward terms. His tips are practical and easy to apply in our daily lives, you do not have to become a monk to reap the benefits of this book. I highly, highly recommend it to everyone.

I have read almost all of Om Swamiji's earlier works. But this one clearly stands out due to it's distinctly technical style. A book on Ayurveda written in his Characteristic style that caters to both novices and experts. I knew, Swamiji as a master of yoga, tantra and astrology but this book is clearly a pleasant surprise. The real life examples and personally verified experiences of the author add a distinct mark of authenticity to the work. I myself have been reading Ayurveda over some time now and can say that this book is a masterpiece, especially the way it fuses observations of modern medicine with Ayurveda and yoga. The book starts with an introduction to basic concepts of Ayurveda, thus it can be picked up even by readers who are novice to Ayurveda. The book has detailed discussion on mental constitutions and afflictions and their effect on physiology and manifestation of diseases. The simplified analysis and classification of different food items using their acidity profile and effect on mental humors is something unique to this work. Pragmatism has always been the hallmark of Swamiji and this work is no different. It contains umpteen simple practices, lifestyle changes and food habits that can be incorporated into one's life to live healthy. This a gem, a gift to the humanity.
