![Universal Soldier 3 [Blu-ray] [Region B]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71jaob50JSL.jpg)

Sci-fi action sequel starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren. A terrorist group has employed two state-of-the-art UniSol fighters (Lundgren and Andrei Arlovski) to seize power of the crippled Chernobyl nuclear reactor, and is threatening to unleash a deadly radioactive cloud if its terms are not met. Can ex-UniSol Luc Deveraux (Van Damme) possibly be a match for these virtually indestructible warriors? The fate of humankind hangs in the balance as the ultimate showdown unfolds. Review: Gritty, Raw & Gruesome. - What a comeback! A remake of the original starring Jean Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren. Gone are the glossy Hollywood effects of the original and in its place is sheer brutal action. I loved the original but I think this is better. Van Damme who plays Luc Devereux is an ageing arthritic Unisol who has been undergoing therapy to make him human again after years of combat action. When the entire Unisol platoon is wiped out by a superior hard as hell Unisol upgrade Devereux is called back into action for one last showdown. Sounds cheesy, but believe me it isn't. There are no special affects to speak of and instead we see genuine hand to hand combat all set in the ruins of the Chernobyl nuclear power station. The fight scenes are truly magnificient, no fancy kicking or kunf fu rubbish, but realistic frantic battles between oponents. It was great to see Van Damme and Lundgren in action again and although looking significantly older by hell they can still move! A great movie. Review: Very good - The soldier of the future feels no pain just a killing machine 🎥 great to see the series of these movies

Universal disappointment
First off, let me just say that I am a fan of Universal soldier, and of the sequel, Universal soldier the return (I like to forget those tv movies exist though). I also happen to be a fan of stupid dumb action movies. I also happen to think that Lundgren should have been far more popular than he was. Lets face it, he stole the show in the Expendables recently, proving how overlooked he is considering the the talent he was working alongside. This film though is a mess, and has little or no connection to the previous two films that I can see. At the end of US1, Jean Claude was regaining his humanity, and even when he was still struggling with his "robotic" nature, he came across more like a child, somewhat naive. In US2 he had regained his humanity completely. This film though seems to ignore both of these films, and makes him into some kind of wooden killing machine again. One can only assume that this is supposed to be a continuation of the first film, and that US2 didnt actually happen, but even then, it really feels like its a step back rather than a continuation. What makes the film even worse is that the "Pit Bull" plays a similar emotionless killing machine, meaning that humour and personality take a back seat in this one. The one redeeming feature in the movie is also the most pointless and ridiculous part of the movie, on so many levels. Dolph Lundgren once again takes centre stage with his psychotic portrayal, which is a good thing, but the whole resurection of his character just seemed ridiculous. Firstly, adding in cloning defeats the whole purpose of the Unisols being revived dead people, and really took the concept one step too far. Secondly, because it smacks of the same stupidity of Robocop 2 putting a killers brain into the new version of Robocop. You just know its gonna go wrong, and that nobody with any common sense would do something like this. The minute Dolph emerges, you know he is gonna go crazy again and kill everyone. Also, his resurection was pointless as it added nothing to the story, and his appearance was brief to say the least. You just get the idea that he was added just to sucker people into buying this (hell, they got me). I will probably give this another go soon, to see if it improves over the initial viewing, but I dont have high hopes.
