Really nice and light weight, sturdy, long lasting
This pencil holder is going to be around for a long time. It is well constructed, nice looking and lightweight. The size is good and the finger grip is effective while not being too rough. I also use this as a stick eraser refill holder, a nice upgrade from plastic. It will hold model 05417 Pentel Clic eracer refills, or the economy pack Baile Rub IT erasers. Both are found here on Amazon. You will need to trim the length a but the inner mechanism is tight enough so that you can use the leftovers.

Best holder for wooden pencils out there, by far
Very nice, very high quality. You'd think something like this would be simple to get right, but I've tried quite a few and this is the only one that I like enough to buy again. Other makes I've tried, perhaps more traditional, do not grip the barrel of the pencil firmly enough and causing the pencil and the holder to wobble with respect to each other. This one holds the pencil firmly such that it feels all of one piece. The eraser is very handy. It's easy enough to unscrew and reverse the pencil if you want to pop it in your pocket. Fit and finish is absolutely top notch. I wish it were available in more colors, I would buy eight to accommodate different weights. This one is silver. The picture has a powder-blue tint to it that must have been picked up from the surroundings. It's also available in dark blue, I have one of those too, although it doesn't seem to be available from this seller. This price was substantially better than I found elsewhere. I like it so much I've started cutting new pencils in half so I don't have to wait for them to get short before I can use it :) Note that Japanese pencils are slightly bigger around than US pencils, 7.22 and 7.00 mm respectively for the one of each I have in front of me. It seems to work fine for both, although I use Japanese pencils exclusively day-to-day.

Versatile and comfortable
Didn't think a metalic extender would be comfortable or able to accommodate Japanese-width pencils (most don't). The eraser is a plus. Overall a well-made, well-conceived product.

Solid holder
Solid pencil holders. Also holds my Cretacolor Monoliths woodless. It does add a bit of weight, but that’s fine.

Great Knurling
Very grippy knurling. Sharper than Rotring's. Feels light but also quality. If you dont want to buy their expensive eraser replacements, you can stretch a standard pentel hi-polymer eraser cap over the eraser sleeve.

Use those stubby pencils
Nothing beats writing & drawing with an old fashioned wooden pencil, but when they get down to about 1/3 of their length they become uncomfortable to hold and difficult to control. I hate to throw them out and waste approximately 2.5 inches of perfectly good pencil! That's where the pencil extender comes in. You clamp it onto that pencil stub and then you can keep using it right down to the end. (Note that for this review I am talking about normal yellow-painted #2 pencils, nothing fancy here.) For years I have been using an Alvin UPL4 which I put a paper stop in so it clamps right at the eraser ferrule and the entire usable length of the pencil is exposed. You can sharpen the pencil while it's in the holder, and it really just sits there and makes the pencil longer without adding any personality of its own (until the pencil gets so short that your fingers wind up on the retaining ring; this is a feeling that I've gotten used to over time.) Sadly my old Alvin is starting to fall apart (metal sleeve coming off of the wooden shaft; glued it twice and it still comes apart) so I've been looking for a replacement. That style of extender is still available but I feel skeptical about the quality of the new ones; is the metal going to be as robust, or will I be looking to replace it again in just a year or two? Selling point for this item was that it looks sturdy, plus it has a pocket clip and a built-in eraser. Seems useful! It is! BUT... This holder is a little too bulky and heavy compared to the Alvin, which is wooden and weighs the same as a pencil. If I clamp around the pencil's eraser ferrule as I am accustomed to, then A) the whole thing winds up being ridiculously long, and B) there's too much weight at the back, which makes it feel awkward and unbalanced. What you are supposed to do is stick the pencil stub up into the metal barrel and clamp it so just the point is sticking out. If you do this, it feels great, BUT ... The clutch seems strong enough to grip without slipping when you're writing, but when the time came to sharpen, I found that the pencil turned inside the holder. You must take the pencil out to sharpen, and then re-mount it in the holder. This is just a little too much rigamarole, and leaves me feeling vaguely frustrated because it's a tiny bit less convenient than the Alvin extender I'm accustomed to. I'll use this; the pocket clip and eraser are definite advantages enabling me to take my stubby pencils out of the house and use them for writing "in the field," something I could not do before. For home use though, especially drawing ... I can see how it might be perfect for somebody who didn't have the same expectations I had. But I'll keep looking for one that's "just right."

I love it
I didn't think I would ever be able to justify a $20 for this item but it's really well designed and feels so comfortable in my hand, I love it. Some reviews mention that a hex barrel won't fit in here well but I am having zero issues with it. The pocket clip keeps it from rolling across my desk, and for me the way that it is weighted feels great, the eraser barrel also works great. I know not everyone will have the same experience, but I have to state unequivocally that this is worth the money!

This pencil holder is ideal for those unwilling to waste their favorite pencils
This pencil holder is ideal for those unwilling to waste their favorite pencils. The end screws down and tightens itself very securely to the pencil, creating a snug hold. The extra width added to the pencil also seems to make writing easier, making this comfortable for those who write a lot. My only complaint is that I wish the holder held longer pencil stubs, as it only accommodates pencils of about three inches. This is a great product that would work well for artists, students, writers, or anyone who simply wants to make the most out of their pencils. 5 stars!

I love it! Clean high quality industry design feeling. Pretty cool with the eraser at the top too.

Amazing piece of kit! We home school and the children use steadtler pencils for their work so we get through a lot. My parents had told me about a little tin holder they were given at work in the 1950's by their boss, where in those times of austerity, they would have to prove their pencil had been used to its maximum before they would be allowed a new one! I wasn't expecting to find anything like it but did. The first one I looked at had mixed reviews, people saying the pencil slipped out or wobbled in the casing. So I decided to go for this one being as it is Staedtler pencils we use. It is a bit pricey and took a while to get here from Japan but it is really good quality and works brilliantly. We now have our first teeny tiny pencil! Have just measured it and my daughter has managed to get it down to 2cm!!! I belong to a small local charity with a school in Africa and I will be taking a few out there for the head teacher to keep as it would help them such a lot. Pity they are not more readily available but sadly, here in the west, we live in such a throwaway society. Would definitely recommend it.

This is a very very well made product for the purpose it is made. I am a writing instrument collector and fanatic about it. I have fountain pens , ballpoint pens, mechanical pencil but never had any wooden pencil in my kit precisely because they would’t stand the luxury look and feel with their plane wooden look when placed side by side and so I missed not having a n wooden pencil in my kit until I discovered this. Now my collection is complete and I nearly fell in love with writing using wooden pencil without compromising the look and feel. Its a conversation starter and an ingenious product. There is no wooble or play and the pencil is super snug fit all the way upto a very small length saving the wasted pencil. While it may look expensive but if you have young kids with years of pencil use ahead of them in a long run the savings it achieves would more than overcome the cost. But more so it is made to survive long if not lost and would be a great gift for kids who would have something to admire and grow along from pre school to university and this may become a gift which lives with them like a true companion. I already purchased five of them. Two for my kids and two black color limited ones for my collection. They are rarely available in black and seems to be soon out of market. So as soon as I found them on Amazon JP I just bought two. The fifth one is going as gift for my niece in UK. She would love it and I am so excited to get her reaction when she gets it. The mechanism to expose the eraser at the back is so ingenious that I was wondering why is this not an industry standard for all mechanical pencils rather than cap mechanism. Honestly I was super impressed because the design felt as if…Eureka !! That’s how to nail it. Expose eraser by just the turn and hide it with the beautiful cap by just twisting it. You have a choice to decide the exposed length of the eraser at the back which most mechanism won’t allow for. Super cool. Buy it just to admire. This feels solid in aluminum itself. If ever they make it with titanium/ copper / brass etc…I will certainly buy as I am a fan of fine writing instrument accessories designed and built with premium metals but that shouldn’t stop you from buying this one as it feels high quality aluminum and very well built.
