Winsor & Newton WN Artist Picture Cleaner, RCFAPC250, transparent, 250 ml (Pack of 1)

I recently bought a picture at auction by an artist I collect. Sadly it was poorly described on the web catalogue and disappointedly arrived with many inexplicable grey streaks which I simply could not remove with delicate use of water. However this incredible paint cleaner has not only removed those inexplicable grey streaks it has transformed the whole painting and brought out elements that were unseen . Knowing this artist this well, this inexplicably cheap £100 auction purchase is certainly worth at least 10 times that.

I have used this on oil paintings up to 200 years old and it works very well removing discoloured varnish and restoring colours. It can also lessen the appearance of craquelure. I prefer to use it outside in sunlight for best visibility and to avoid smell in the house. It is best to support the canvas with a book or a board behind it, although it does not need hard rubbing. It goes a long way, particularly if the cotton wool balls are squeezed out onto the painting, rather than discarded immediately.

Cleaned up a 19th century oil painting that was covered in yellowing varnish. The distilled spirit is also required, but the two together do a fine job. Mind you, if my painting had cost or been worth a small fortune, I'd have had the cleaning done professionally. But this product proved safe to use and the colours on my picture now look fantastic; bright and clear.

Bought this product to clean a rather dull oil painting. It really brought it back to life, I can now see all little details that had been hidden by years of dirt.

I am using this to clean an old oil painting. It's going well so far: the cleaner is easy to use and not too aggressive.

Je suis bluffé par le résultat ! La trace de saleté est bien partie après le nettoyage avec le coton disque, c'est vraiment impressionnant de voir ça !

Donne de bons résultats sur les tableaux de peinture à huile sur toile (essayer quand même dans un coin pour voir si seule la crasse s'en va et pas la peinture, et ce en fonction de l'âge de l'oeuvre)

La photo avant/après parle d'elle-même. Le gris était en fait du rose ! Le produit nettoie très bien, sans devoir trop frotter (faites des cercles). Le fabriquant conseille de passer ensuite de l'essence de térébenthine pour neutraliser le nettoyant, ce que j'ai fait. La surface est alors un peu collante pendant quelques heures, mais la peinture ne part pas ! L'odeur est forte pendant une journée, puis il ne vous reste plus qu'à profiter des couleurs retrouvées ! À 26 euros, le flacon de 500 ml est une affaire, d'autant plus que je l'utilise quatre ans plus tard et qu'il est toujours aussi efficace.
