Updated for 2013: We've taken the Luxury MAP mattress to a new level of comfort by covering it with a lighter fabric cover that's softer and plusher than ever before. Next-to-skin softness improves upon an already luxurious mattress that uses advanced pressure mapping technology and innovative die-cut foams to provide comfort and support where you need it most. The result is a more even and supportive sleep surface, less tossing and turning with fewer pressure points and the priceless experience of a more restful night outdoors. Stuff sack included.

This mattress is a great size for me (at 5'10"
This mattress is a great size for me (at 5'10", with broad shoulders) and is quite comfy to sleep on. It's not as nice as a queen sized pillow top, of course, but for an air mattress it's great. Definitely comfortable enough that it doesn't feel like a huge sacrifice to sleep on it, and in face it's probably better than the mattresses on many a bed. Even on my side my shoulder and hip don't push through to hit the ground. Good for side or back sleeping. Fast and easy to set up, and pretty fast to deflate for packing as well. It fits easily inside it's included bag; to fussing or cussing to get it back in there. It's definitely NOT well suited to carrying on a hike for any amount of time, but for car camping or as a spare mattress in your house for random guests, it is good stuff.

No need to pad this review!
After trying many different sleep pads for camping and use in our motorhome, this one has shown itself to be the most comfortable, convenient and classy solution. It self-inflates and provides enough cushioning that I can rest my old bones on it even on a hard floor or slightly uneven ground. It packs up easily, looks and feels great, and is easy to store. Can't say enough good things about it. I truly wouldn't feel guilty offering this as a sleep solution for an unexpected guest if need be.

Sleeping like a baby
Pros: - Wide, so you have some room to spread out - Thick, so your hip/shoulder/whatever isn't hitting the ground - Easy to useCons: - ? Only one color, Purple ?I've been using an original Thermarest for years and recently bought this for my wife to use while camping. Before our last 5 day camping trip I decided I needed one too. It is so much more comfortable than the original! Still easy to use and the newer valve is much easier that the little metal one on the original. I love that it's wider since I sleep on my stomach/side that makes a big difference.Tip: Don't over inflate it. I used to blow mine up until it was very firm, with a thin pad that's needed so you don't hit the ground. With this much thicker mattress, I sleep much more comfortably if I let some air out so there is more give. Start with it blown up firm, lay on it and let air out slowly until it feels the best to you.

It doesn't get much more comfortable than this for a base camp pad.
I slept on this pad for about 4 months last year. 2 months on a trail crew and 2 months afterwards. Prior to trail crew I used a neoair trekker for about 4.5 months on a thru hike. I hauled this 5lbs XL beast 6 miles up the mountain and kept it at base camp for the entire trail crew season. Coming from the trekker, it was like sleeping on a cloud. After trail crew, I joined two of these together and used as my main bed in my new apartment. I'm not sure what more you could ask for.

Solid Choice For Car Campers
I bought my first Thermarest mattress for backpacking almost two decades ago and it's still running strong with many hundreds of uses under it's belt. Although I still backpack here and there, car camping is part of most of my outdoor adventures these days and my average overnighters usually reach into 25-50 nights a year. It was finally time to add a pair of high quality, comfort-focused sleeping pads to the kit. Two factors were involved...comfort, obviously, but also a fair degree of cold protection for those occasional off-season jaunts. With a rating down to -40 degrees Fahrenheit and what seemed like a good 3" of comfort, it seemed the LuxuryMap series fit the bill nicely.I went with the large (middle size) and I'm glad I did...and would probably suggest to others that you start there. The extra width and length are well worth it, even for an average sized person. If carry weight is a concern, you should probably be looking at other models than this one...but the regular size might be good for a backpacker who doesn't mind hauling a considerable bit of extra weight for the added comfort. (It wouldn't be worth it for me.) Still, unless you have a specific reason for the small/regular size, like perhaps trying to fit between the wheel wells of a truck, I'd suggest the large as a starting point. They are considerable in size, but this probably isn't your biggest concern...you're obviously here shopping for comfort, rather than a small concise backpacker's model.Second, it took me a bit to understand how to use this thing for comfort. If you blow it up firm, it will give you an experience just like a well inflated 1" mattress and you will probably wake up with the typical "slept on the ground" feeling the next day. The advantage of the 3" of depth is you can intentionally deflate it so as to allow it to curve to your body much better than their other models. When doing so, it really does add a welcome degree of comfort. I've slept on my side, back and chest and this mattress doesn't have any particular weak points that I could find. With the unit a bit on the soft side, it truly does take it beyond your traditional sleeping pad. From the initial few outings so far, I've seen a remarkable improvement in the way I feel the next morning. Getting a little bit older, I am a little more sensitive these days than I was as a young 20-something, so it was well worth the expense for that. More importantly though, the quality of sleep I receive is much improved. On my older Thermarest, I used to toss and turn much of the night, lightly sleeping through the wee hours...but even though a major multi-hour thunderstorm, these mattresses helped me get to sleep and stay asleep. Lastly, although I haven't taken these extreme conditions camping (which I usually define as snow on the ground and sub-freezing outside), I can tell the cold performance is improved over my traditional pad. I'll have a better idea this coming winter.I'm pleased with these pads and would buy them again. I think if you are looking for the same long-term reliability, performance and comfort that I was...they should definitely be on a short list of considerations.Usage Edit:I used the pair of these on a whirlwind tour of British Columbia, Yukon Territories and Alaska this year. We were on a 7,500 mile journey, tenting it, for the better part of a month straight with these pads under our sleep gear every single night. Typically, these road trips are pretty intense...up at 6AM, down by 11PM every day...it takes a toll on the body fairly quickly. In previous road trips, I've found it necessary to break up the tent nights with a stay in a hostel or hotel in order to "get a good night's rest" here and there. I was incredibly impressed that these allowed us to comfortably stay each night in a tent without a single uncomfortable night. Zero complaints related to the sleep! We even discussed getting a hotel and felt we were getting better sleep than we probably could have on an average hotel bed! These pads easily paid for themselves quite quickly and I am very happy to have them in my kit...solid five plus stars!Lastly, I modified the kit a little bit to suit my liking as I didn't really care for the stuff sack's design. It used external straps and clips on the stuff sack itself to secure the pads, which meant you had to remove and insert the pad into the sack unsecured. I cut a couple pieces of 1" poly strip and sewed on snap-together clips that allowed me to strap the pads themselves outside of the stuff sack. This makes it much easier to get the pads in and out of the stuff sack and also saves a little bit of space, since the pad can't unroll when removing or installing it into the sack. That's really my only issue, and it took maybe a couple dollars worth of material to modify it to my preferences.

Firm and luxurious
This is the "luxury" version of Thermarest pads and we got what we expected. They self-inflated just fine and with a few added puffs, are very, very firm. No loss of air through use whatsoever.A couple of notes. Some might find the pad too firm, but we like ours that way. Also, the stuff sacks have compression and pull straps that we managed to pull right out of the seams with only a moderate tug. My guess is that they don't use reinforced stitching like you'd see on daypack straps. This was disappointing, but since we're using these for car camping (you wouldn't want to tote these around for backpacking), the lack of compression straps is not enough of an issue for me to ding them on the overall rating. Just beware when you pull on them.

Very Comfy !!!
Bought this for a 6500 mi. road trip on a Harley. i have not been dirt camping for over 40yrs. and they did not have anything like this . This is not a full size mattress but for sleeping on the ground this is as good as it gets. Size and weight where not factors because the bike was carrying it not me. So if you are looking for a good mattress for dirt camping this is a darn good one. Rolls up fairly nice and even fits back into its nylon bag every time. I'm 5' 9' 190 lbs and was a good fit with the 30 inch wide.

Bin sehr zufrieden

Hier muss man beim ersten Mal etwas nachhelfen.
