Extremely happy
Over the past several years I’ve tried out over a dozen trail running shoes, just to name a few: brooks cascadia, brooks catamount, brooks caldera, altra lone peak, altra superior, altra olympus, saucony peregrine, topo ultraventure, asics trabuco max, hoka challenger, hoka speedgoat, and other random Salomon, merrel, etc trail running shoes. This is the first shoe that I have wanted to keep. Two things take extremely high priority to me in a pair of trail running shoes. 1. I shouldn’t be hurt by roots and rocks (whether they achieve this with a hard rubber outsole, rock plate, or thick outsole, I don’t care much). 2. I have a slight hagmlunds deformity so I need an exceptional heel lock to actually hold anything in place. Other factors are also important like how grippy they are, is the midsole comfortable, does it have a gaiter trap, are there rubber overlays at the front to stop rocks from destroying the fabric, are they durable, are they lightweight etc, but these factors come second (to me) to those two important factors. THIS SHOE MET ALMOST ALL MY EXPECTATIONS. It is comfortable running over technical trails, has good grip, is compatible with gaiters, has some slight rubber overlays for durability, and the heel doesn’t slip that much. Although the heel does slip a tiny bit, note that it was the best out of all those other popular shoes, partially due to the Achilles tendon pads, and partially from the soft heel counter. IF YOU ARE BETWEEN THIS SHOE AND ALTRA OLYMPUS OR LONE PEAK, BUY THIS SHOE. Altra Olympus is built with slightly more traction and is a bit more rugged, but with the cons of a much heavier weight, stiffer midsole, heel slip, and steeper price. The lone peak is a comfortable shoe, but it’s thin midsole breaks down much faster, heel slips more, and doesn’t seem to get as good of a midfoot lockdown, so your foot slides around in the shoe on technical trails. Tdlr: this shoe surprised me after a long line of disappointments. If you enjoy trail running, hiking or backpacking, give this shoe a try!

Wow! Smooth!
First run & first impression - smooth! Granted, these are for easier, non-technical trails & gravel-road running, but they run quite nicely. Amazingly soft cushioning, but not unstable. They’re so comfortable. I love the rocker feel in the forefoot (not too pronounced, but it’s there). For me, they fit true to size. I have a wider forefoot & the toe box is awesome - roomy, but I’m not swimming in them. The tongue is thicker than others, but it also feels more plush & the laces still stay tight. I’m very satisfied & I’m looking forward to putting in the miles on this one!

Solid trail runner - needs to come in widths for optimum performance
ALTRA Men's Experience Wild Trail Running shoes are one of the two brands I use for 5mm drop, wide toe box and cushioned running. These Altra’s are good, but they don’t come in widths. I use them as backups but Topos provide a better fit for my wider, high instep feet and accommodate my inserts slightly better. Fit is obviously personal and for many, Altra is the go-to brand. The quality, durability and good balance of cushioning with a stiffer sole for rough trails is very good. If they offered widths and slightly more cushion without compromising stiffness for trails I would give this model 5 stars.

Good daily trainers on the local trails around Sedona, AZ
These are my thickest trail shoes and I like it so much that I bought the newer version too! I can't comment on the durability yet as I only have about 100 miles on this pair and less on the updated version. These seem to be good daily trainers for both weight and cushioning.

Great
Love these shoes. They look blue in some light and green in others. They are comfortable. If they hold up I will be thrilled with them.

The best ive found for my feet
After many different pairs of shoes and trying to find my fit, i can comfortably and confidently say i found it in these. Love the Altra toe box, and these have some extra cushion in the sole that i prefer. I have roughly 150 miles on so far, mixture of hard pack trail hiking and city street walking. I would absolutely buy again, and i plan to shortly just to have another pair waiting. My hikes and time outside are even better when my feet are not a concern.
