BRAVIA Theater Bar 9 Soundbar for TV Surround Sound Home Theater with 13 Speakers, Dolby Atmos/DTS:X, 360 Spatial Sound Mapping, HDMI 2.1 and Supports Spotify Connect/Apple AirPlay (HT-A9000)

After some hesitation, I purchased the Bar 9 as a Black Friday bundle for $1500 with the SW3 subwoofer and RS8 rear speakers. I'm very happy with the full package -- in spite of some lukewarm reviews online (but those are mostly about the Bar 9 alone). The full package provides a fantastic surround sound for Dolby Atmos movies. I did quite a bit of comparing with the Samsung Q990F which is generally touted as the best package in this price range, but I'm not convinced that it sounds better. Especially with one of the new Bravia TVs (A95L in my case), I believe the Sony integration is worth it. Acoustic Center Sync is actually great -- dialogue coming straight from the screen as opposed to a narrow center channel underneath, and the difference is very noticeable. The SW3 bass is more than enough for me, but you are welcome to splurge on the SW5 and/or the RS5 rear speakers if you so desire. For me, this package is perfect. A note on the Bar 9 itself -- I'm not sure if it's the best choice on its own. The bass performance is limited, and the "phantom speakers", while a cool concept, cannot replace physical surround speakers. Based on my testing, and especially knowing what the full system sounds like, I would not go for it. My rating reflects the full package.

For the record I don’t like soundbars. I’m an audio guy with too many TV’s and surround sound systems. I’ve learned over the years that when it comes to audio bigger is generally better with regard to sound reproduction. But my wife just remodeled our family room and told me no big speaker systems and I could only have four little ones. I’m not sure what she was thinking So I decided to try this soundbar and matching sub and rears. “That’s only four speakers.” I told her. To make it simple, considering the size of the speakers, their low power output and the overall room size they were acoustically tackling, I was impressed. Does a nice job filling the room with somewhat of a surround sound experience and quality sound reproduction. It’s still a soundbar and there is no getting around the acoustic limitations that imposes but my wife’s happy because the system is unobtrusive and doesn’t require separate monoblocks weighing a ton each to drive massive power thirsty speakers that she says are unsightly. So to sum it up, Good quality sound, small package size, easy to set up with the app, good volume and compared to what I usually spend, it’s good value for the money. So if your wife tells you you can’t have eight speakers and two subs in your family room and you have to keep it small and you’re stuck using a soundbar, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with this one.

I bully a new home and decided the first thing was going to be a really nice tv/audio system. This does not let me down. As a guy that always had to have a receiver. Floor speakers etc. I was and am completely blown away at the sound and surround capabilities. I have a weekly “rock concert” thanks to YouTube and some responsible tequila drinking lol!! This sound bar with sub and rears, causes me to need to stand up and dance. It’s that good. Deep. Soul filling sound.

I purchased a used one that was suppose to be in mint condition. Not true. It was missing it's remote (and batteries). The front corners were slightly scuffed. It wouldn't sync with my subwoofer and took awhile to sync with my satellites. Sounded great though, so I ended up purchasing a new one on eBay for less than this one!

I never would have thought I’d own a sound bar over a traditional surround sound system, but the times have changed and Sony brought their best designing this system. I have the full upgraded set up and let me just say it sounds absolutely phenomenal and I’m blown away by just how amazing the sound quality is - and the aesthetics of the speakers are very nice. I know it’s pricey for the full set up but if you’re like me and tired of running cables and looking for a minimalist set up with hardly any hassle than this is your winner. I’m sitting my couch blasting music writing this review now. Epic system, especially for a sound bar.

So far so good. Works great

If you have a Sony tv and the Bravia app installed prior to getting Theater 9 bar. You might need to Uninstall like I did. Spent a good hour trying to get the TV center to work. After I Uninstalled the app and reinstall it found it right away. It would not go forward with the install without finding the tv as center channel. There is no manual setup. After setup this Bar shines over my old sony 3000 bar. Ps5 and xbox I used to have to have the volume at 25-30 to get good sound not the volume is at 15 and it is vastly louder on them. Tv is a little low on volume on streaming apps compared to the ps5 and Xbox sound.

I bought the soundbar 9 to connect to a Sony Bravia TV. This should’ve been a walk in the park. Unfortunately, Sony makes the setup for a simple system that literally just needs a power plug and an HDMI connection a total PITA. My setup crashed halfway through a software update and never recovered. Why do I need to setup an app with precise location info? The app and the setup overwhelms the physical product itself. I never heard this soundbar because after the software update crash, I couldn’t get the setup to progress past HDMI sensing of the connection again. Too bad. Frustrating and just a headache I don’t need now. I returned it.

If you read online reviews, this Bar gets mostly stellar reviews and is recommended. In my experience though, the soundfield was distinctly underwhelming (for my ear). It doesn't have Chromecast which the previous model did (a requirement for me), and it lacks any form of display. You would be surprised inconvenient that is when trying to establish inputs and what audio format is being detected. Sony appears to think that using their App is the answer, not for me I'm afraid. For a premium product and given the glowing reviews, I was personally seriously disappointed and underwhelmed. I returned it.

Excellent sound quality esp. for listening to music. Much better than samsung Q990f soundbox. For movie surround effect need to get bass and satellite speakers. The issue it's too expensive and pricey for what you get.
