Material is thin, but soles are thick. They fit snug but not too tight to leave impression. Insert comes out, fits right back in.

We love these. The only complaint is after two or three wears the bottom comes out ESPECIALLY in the sand. Other than that we wore them the entire time on three cruises before they gave out
