WesternDigital 8TB
This is an excellent NAS hard drive with 8 TB of storage, specifically designed for home or small business NAS systems. Its stable performance, low noise level, and good energy efficiency make it ideal for backups, multimedia storage, or RAID configurations. Many users highlight its reliability and ample capacity for large amounts of data. Some mention that it can be a bit noisy during intense data transfers, but overall, it offers great value for money and reliable 24/7 operation.

High capacity, CMR, no errors, runs stable (so far)
Upon opening the box, I ran SMART extended drive test using Linux GParted. SMART reported no errors. I then formatted with NTFS 64kB with whole-drive Bitlocker. Then I ran another extended drive test. Then 6TB of backup data was transferred to the drive and a hash manifest was generated for each directory. At this point, the drive had been operating continuously for days, sweeping the entire surface multiple times with tests, reads, and writes. No errors (yet). This will be a cold storage drive in a ruggedized USB-C enclosure, accessed only a few times per year.

Quality Issues?
Bought two 8TB WD Red Plus HDDs 4 days ago, to put into a UGREEN NAS DH2300 2 bay NAS. One of the drives was defective so I returned it and Amazon sent me a replacement which arrived today. Unfortunately, the replacement was also bad. I swapped the position of the two drives inside the NAS and the problem moved with it. I also mounted the replacement drive in a disk enclosure and verified with my computer that it was indeed bad. Now waiting for a replacement to the replacement, Update: When Amazon sent me an email saying the replacement would be delayed due to supply management issues, I cancelled the replacement order and bought one at the local Best Buys. $10 more than Amazon's price, but it worked! Now configuring the NAS. Western Digital used to make excellent drives, has the quality gone downhill, or did Amazon get a bad batch?

One Drive DOA, RMA took a few weeks
I'm a long-time Western Digital fan of their blue and black label drives, so I decided to purchase two of these drives for my new NAS to use in a RAID1 array. One drive was DOA, and would not spin up. I work in IT. It happens. Put in an RMA on the 19th of July. Paid for their two day shipping. Tracking says they received it on the 24th (this is going from East Coast USA to West Coast (California). Great. Checked back on the RMA status on the 29th and it still said "Pending Return". Reached out to support. Got a responsive reply saying that they in fact did receive it on the 24th. Awesome. 1 hour later, I received an email saying they got my return. Odd, but fine. August 2nd, I finally got an email saying my drive was shipped (no tracking information). Today is the 13th of August, and I literally just received the drive after reaching out to support for tracking. It was in fact delivered via UPS, so I'm not sure what the delay was. It's a good thing I didn't need this drive for anything super critical. I'll update if I have issues with the drives themselves.

Dead on arrival.
I bought two 8TB units for my UGREEN NAS. One of the two units was dead on arrival. Completely dead. Wouldn't even power up or spin: nothing. Both units shold have worked as mirror Hard Drives. I now need to return the defective unit and buy AGAIN from WD, if I want to complete my mirror hard drive system. Not happy.
