Creative Live! Audio A3 USB Audio Interface with High-Resolution Recording and Playback up to 24-bit 96kHz, with Zero-Latency Direct Monitoring

Well, the Creative Live Audio A3 is a budget winner. These days, budget interfaces are ubiquitous. I wanted something classy-looking, that worked well, had 2 mic inputs, and ¼" monitor outs, and usable level meters. Few designs in my budget fit the bill for all my requirements. I thought I'd have to compromise on looks thinking a not-so-discreet Scarlett, or a not-so-classy looking M-Audio, then I stumbled upon the A3 from Creative Labs. I/O: 2 Mic preamps, 2 Headphone outs w volume ctrl, 2 ¼" outs for monitors, 3 monitoring settings, a mute button and it's all USB bus powered... Here's the TLDR: Mic preamps can power a SM7B, but a little on the noisy side for that, IMHO. I'm running SM57s with the foam windscreens, and it's great as-is for VoIP coms and gaming, which is the primary use I have for this unit. Pros/Cons No wall warts. Drivers are a small, no-nonsense deal, and proved very stable on my computer. Headphone output sounds absolutely fantastic. (Beyer 990 Pro 250ohm, Rode NTH-100) Preamps get a little noisy when pushed to the limit, but with more typical dynamics like SM57, SM58 decent recording levels can be achieved before getting into preamp noise. Conclusion: For it's price to performance, it's a "get it now, before someone else finds out". Build quality puts to shame a few of the big brands' products out there. Now, looks aren't always important, but this interface just plain classy, and that can't hurt.

If you are using a power and gain-hungry microphone (like the Shure SM7B in my case) beware you will need a gain lifter of some form to actually hear the mic. The sound and monitoring is great, and I hope to see more people try this out, as it honestly seems to be quite under the radar for being such a good audio interface. Would reccomend

Absolutely a gem. This Is a great little interface if your looking for a very small recording setup. Easy plug in and play with Reaper. No latency. Easy to use. Sleak too. I like the design and feel of it. Happy with it!

I purchase an Audient EVO4 about a year and a half ago. Though this unit sounded ok, it was very glitchy, sometimes disappearing from my computer output. It also suffered from very loud turn on pulses and sometimes other sporadic noises and drops. I made numerous attempts to remedy the issue with technical support to no avail. I got the Creative Live! Audio A3 last week and it is a far superior product. Rock steady, no glitching, low noise, low latency and no unexpected behavior. If you are choosing between the two, go with the Creative.
