This was perfect for transforming our hammock into a bed for our one week backcountry camping trip. I wouldn’t do a tent again! This with the hammock was comfy and perfect for a waterfront view from our site. Best camping purchase yet!

So I have officially used this bug net for over 2 years. Since my last review a year ago, my opinion on this net has changed a bit. My biggest gripe is the ridgeline. I ended up losing it and net cannot be held up without it. It’s been surprisingly troublesome to find a rope that is strong but also thin enough for the hooks to latch onto. The pouch in which the net packs into hangs at the bottom, so it gets dirty easily. I tried a different brand’s bug net that has a horizontal zipper instead of a vertical one and found that to be more comfortable to get in and out of and it also has a built in ridgeline. HOWEVER, that bug net is over twice the price of Wise Owl’s. I’ve also gotten spoiled since this bug net was my first ever bug net and I have since seen/tried out other ones. I still snag the net sometimes but it has held up with 0 runs or tears. After hammock camping for a while, I’ve learned this bug net isn’t quite for me but it is an excellent bug net for intro/budget hammock campers or for casual hammocking. ————————————- Original Review: I’ve been a tent camper but decided to try hammock camping since I heard it can be cooler than tents for hot nights. I have the Wise Owl double hammock that’s going 1 yr strong of constant use so I decided to stick with Wise Owl for the bug net and rain tarp. The bug net is more affordable than other hammock brands too. Set-up is so incredibly easy and I watched their short YouTube video on it before using it. I’ve used it for multiple overnight camping and it’s been wonderful. The mosquitos and horse flies during the summer are relentless, but I’m safe inside my hammock. This set-up is also better than the hammocks that come with a bug net sewn onto them as those tend to sink onto you. This stays propped away from me all the way around. I thought the material would be a little rough, but it’s actually very soft to the touch. Like the hammock, the bug net’s containment bag is attached at the center so you don’t have to worry about where you place it after setting up the net. Hammock camping has been a life changer. I don’t have to worry about damp grounds and my backpack has gotten significantly lighter. Set-up is also faster than a tent (for me at least). Unsure if I’ll stick to hammock camping in the winter, but it’s now definitely my summer go-to. I’m going to look into Wise Owl’s underquilt to add to my collection. Some tips: • Be careful with any mildly sharp objects you may have. They can get caught on the net and possibly tear it a bit. The net is very fine and soft, and does seem to snag easily. I haven’t torn mine but some snagging from my watch or jacket zippers has happened. • The netting, while very fine and good at preventing small bugs, isn’t fully breathable. Meaning that it is warmer inside of it as not much breeze gets through. This is good for cooler weather since it helps insulate heat, but isn’t great for the hottest days. • Highly recommend watching their YouTube tutorial and practice setting it up in your backyard or at a park before committing to camping in it.

See update below. I changed my rating from 3-star to 5-star Missing tie and its clasp on one end. I purchased a shoelace and clasp to fix it myself. Black netting is warmer inside than outside. It worked great keeping the bugs out. Overall a good product, UPDATE: Wise Owl Outfitters contacted me apologizing and offered me My choice of a replacement, refund or 20% discount on next purchase. They also reinstructed Quality Control and this will not occur again. I will give them another chance and future purchases will be with them. I recommend this company and highly recommend this hammock.

I really, really love these two mosquito nets, and have also bought two rain tarps and new straps for my kid's hammock, and maybe even more from Wise Owl that I can't remember right now. I really like the brand and the products. However, I should say that a piece (one of the top hook things) snapped off of the first mosquito net on the first or second day or use. Likewise, two of the stakes for one of the rain tarps have bent - one of them bent on the very first day. I really love the products, but maybe they need more durability. Even then, aside from those two faults, I actually feel like they're likely to be pretty durable overall.

Great addition to our gear. This bug net definitely keeps those pesky bugs out, when fully zipped. Giving 4 stars because the zipper had an issue, but not a deal breaker for me. So nice for my girl and I to be able to hang out and not swat those gnats away. (see photo) We have other Wise Owl gear and use it all. The price was right, material seems sturdy, basic black is a good colour for this. Easy to hang, just remember to slide it around hammock first before hanging hammock.
